That is bullshit. You are smart and already fairly well read and don't let anyone tell you you aren't talented. You are capable of much, of everything you want to be capable of, but this part of life is hard and it is easy to be dissuaded by the older jealous intellectuals.

I am not too surprised things went much further than you were willing. Good to find this out yourself early on so that you don't make too many more of the same kind of mistakes.
You are mainly a good writer who is finding herself. How do you like Reage? I wish I could read french, I suspect it is much better in the original.

It's more psychological than Annie, and certainly more about the female than the male. Have you read the part where the torturers are all women? Very interesting. Another book in this vein is Jean Berg's The Image. Quite good.
