I would say animating requires 2 things. A sense of motion (duh lol). And a sense of gesture. So start practicing gestures, once you understand how really give a characters pose some exaggeration and flare it will really enhance the next part~>

Sense of motion~. I can only say that you'll get better at this by just animating everyday. Whether it be little tests or long animations. PERSONALLY (tho i know many disagree) You could animate stick anims for like 4 years, and do drawing on the side. And then after that mash the two together and animating actual figures should come like second nature (least it did for me..).

umm, learn the 12 principles of animation lol. Explore different actions/reactions/moods. etc. If you want a growing community to help you improve along the way Hyuns dojo would be a good place to go (if you ask me lol...) but in any case I feel learning in a community works (i grew up with fluidanims/stickpage) You learn a lot of cool things when youhave others and their influences really help boost your growth. so yea...

tl:dr. Git gud at gestures. git gud at feeling motion. lurn 12 principlz, explore, make friends.

this does actually help a lot, thank you i have heard of Hyun before and seen some of his animations, very amazing stuff. i use to actually animate in pivot. never use to take it too seriously and only animated a little i loved making sticks though, i could show you a few animations if you wanted to see them

Whoa these are pretty sweet. I'm always impressed by the certain "flow" pivot anims seem to have (especially in their runs). Double ups for the fact that it's a joint!
