Yeah, they're right - you shouldn't have used Azu's works in the first place.

You didn't get his permission because he doesn't want you to use his characters. If he told you to stop posting the pictures, I would recommend that you stop. You should lay off this "lame"-ness, to quote Azuzephre, and come up with some of your own work.
