Yeah, I know what you mean. Mine's pretty character-driven, too. But it's really driven by a lot of things that happened in the "past" in the storyline. I just really enjoy defining characters and giving them backstories. Mine's also about the fact that angels make mistakes too... and that they work in Purgatory to atone for those mistakes. All the characters have one fundamental flaw that they focus on improving (one is really clumsy, one is really cut off from people and won't talk to anyone, etc) and they're given jobs based on what they'd be worst at (the clumsy, not-good-at-meeting-people guy is a waiter, the girl with a short attention span and no patience is the cook) so they can learn to deal with difficult situations.
..that's the short of it anyway. ^_^; There's a LOT more to it, and it gets rather complicated because everyone's back story ends up factoring in, so sense there's like... 12 workers in the cafe, there's a lot of tying together to do and it gets messy to try to explain. XD;
But yeah, I'd advise you to be very, very careful what you post online. People have a habit of thinking that taking whatever they want offline is a-okay, forgetting the fact that it's still plagiarism. And heck, your page is visited a lot more then mine is, I haven't even hit 2,000 views yet. XDD;; S'okay though. I draw for my own enjoyment, not the recognition of it. So I don't mind being an obscure little artist. I WOULD like to publish my Purgatory Cafe and have it be popular at some point, though. ^_^- I really want people, especially the new generations, to try to actually think about what they believe and why they believe it. If I can make at least one person read my books and say, "yeah, now I see, things aren't always so cut-and-dry. You have to understand in your own way and choose what you believe based on who you are", then I've succeeded. Religion's a fuzzy thing. It's hard for me, even as a Christian, to accept a group of people automatically believing in the same thing just because someone told them so. I think you really have to reach your own conclusions in faith.

Hmmm, your story sounds pretty cool. :] Mine also focuses on the past of the characters, but instead of the cafe being a way for them to deal with it, it's more of a backdrop to the events that happen. If that makes any sense at all XD
I know what you mean about crazy backstories, all the pasts of every character gets a little out of control. :0
Eeeek, I haven't really worried about that much D: I haven't had any rips so far, mebbe that's making me a little lax. But I draw and write for the same reasons you do :]
Haha, don't worry about tangents. I'm atheist, and I got this way through a lot of questioning and thought... not 'cos I'm a ultraliberal-rebel-rebel. I guess with my "book" (I'm writing PC in the form of short stories at the moment...) I just want to help people deal with themselves.... understand what's wrong and how to fix it, and that asking questions is okay. Haha, I'm still not making much sense here. And going off on my own tangent. XD

I was just curious, because while you didn't get very far... you have a storyline that sounds very similar to one of mine. I was wondering if we had similar inspiration or something.

I'm assuming you mean my Purgatory Cafe storyline? The inspiration for that was pretty widespread... some from mangas (CLAMP ones, mostly) and some from random tidbits of literature.
I guess it was mostly because I've had strange death-experiences during my life, where I think I'm dead and am actually living an illusion (this is for reals-- I had a recent spell of it just a few days ago). Yeah, I might be crazy. Oh well

Yeah, the plotlines seem to be fundamentally different though. Considering your version seems to be about a mortal's soul and mine is about Angels... I was just randomly like, "Let's See if anything else is tagged Purgatory Cafe!" and I was like, "OMGWTFMANGA?!" , then I was like... "Oops. Kinda different." but it's hard to tell by three pages. XD; Mine really evolved from a "Hunh. This would be cool. " to a full blown-out epic. XD; But I really have to be careful, because I've had some people try to rip me off before. But yeah, your's is fundamentally different so I'm not really worried. Besides the fact that talking to you, I sincerely doubt you'd be the type of person to plot-steal. I'm sure it's coincidence (or maybe fate? XD You're a CLAMP fan, don't they say "nothing is coincidence?")
I can definatly understand the near-death experiences, though. Because I used to pass out all the time, and there were plenty of times I woke up, had no clue what was going on, and thought I was dead. Maybe that's why I got so obsessive about this particular storyline. I donno. It's been my funnest work and I hope when I finish it, people will read it, enjoy it, and maybe think about things a little differently.
