Wow dude, you were a level designer on Limbo, I hope my graffiti level design wasn't too bad so ! I was wondering what's level design exactly and how did you came to it ?

Level design was essentially building, either through code or with our game-engine (which does the physics, shapes and everything else), the levels that the boy travels through. Attaching physical properties to boxes to make them move, and so on. It's quite a bit more complicated than that, but think of it, as inventing the puzzles that we then required the players to solve and move through.
I'm not really sure how one comes to be a level designer - I have a degree in Game Design as well as programming skills, so I just got a job at Playdead as a game designer. Doing levels was a natural part of that, since game design in Limbo was basically just constructing levels that made the player do all sorts of things.

Yeah, I do feel strongly about it, but I also know all of the guys involved in making it. And we were a somewhat pretentious bunch, so some aspects of it became almost TOO alternative - but that's just my opinion. Seeing as the game is exclusively the vision of the director, I can't assume enough ownership to not still have criticism for it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of the game, I just would've made a different game - had I been the director
