# About me
Feel free to talk to me! I don't mind being what some of you might call 'bothered'. I love helping people when I can!TUMBLR rollingstarr.tumblr.com | PORTFOLIO katdelac.blogspot.com | BLOGGER rollingstarr.blogspot.com

I am a graduate of Capilano University's animation program from 2012. I have worked with DHX (formerly known as Studio B Productions) in design on Pound Puppies 3 for almost a year. I have done freelance for iWonder Learning. I was at Slap Happy for Storyboard revisions and Atomic Cartoons thereafter and resumed doing storyboard revisions. I returned to Slap Happy to storyboard full-time.
If you want me for freelance, feel free to message me about it. I'm not sure if I'll have room, but you can still try. Thanks!
For more random doodles and the like, please feel free to check out my blog for that at: My Stuff from the Rollingstarr Blog.
For a more filtered representation of my work, please feel free to check it out at: My Portfolio Site
I can also be found on LinkedIn as Katherine Dela Cruz.
I am also known as Keizer on conceptart.org
Thanks!

Your art is beautiful! Are you a Canadian immigrant? 'Cause I can't help to think that you look like a Filipina.

Hi, um well, I saw some of your pictures and I really liked them like, a lot,
I think you're pretty good so I decided to watch you and I read in your ID
you don't mind people asking questions so may I have one? Thank you!
I'm looking forward on working (when I graduate) at something related to
animation, concept art or something like that (sorry for my lack of vocabulary,
I'm a bit young and I don't have very clear what jobs are out there or the exact
idea I have in mind) I just thought that since you have worked in so many projects
you could tell me something I took a sight of Capilano University, but it's a bit
far for me (I'm from Spain)
Anyways, thank you so much for reading even if I wasn't very clear
I really look up to you, keep up the amazing work!!

Hello there. Thanks.
What I can tell you is that look around to any schools around your area in Spain, or countries near to it if you don't feel like leaving home for somewhere far away when it's time! As you're looking around, always develop your portfolio and your skills. For the animation industry, it's great to be able to draw in different styles--especially for the storyboarding department. If you also have drop-in sessions for life drawing (drawing a nude model with other artists), try and see if you can attend those.
As for jobs, it depends. If you're looking at flash cartoons (like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) then in the design department there are the character designers, the prop designers and the background designers. There's also the colourists and the cleanup artists. Rotations (where the person designs the different views of the character) is also found in the design department. Since flash animation are cutouts, there's a person called the builder--which gets more technical I guess. They basically separate the pieces of the build so that the animators can use the character later. There are also positions called the board-pull designers.
The storyboarding department consists of the board artists and the revisionists. If you'd like to get into storyboarding, it'd be best to try and be a storyboard revisionist first.
Then there's the layout department. These people take the builds (the characters) and pose them out according to the storyboards. Then the studio will either animate in house, after, or be sent overseas.
For 2D, non-Flash productions, I guess it's kind of the same for jobs... The character, prop, background designers. Sometimes the character designers will also do the rotations.
Concept art, I'd say would go under visual development. If you'd like to do concept art, I think one of the more easier ways to get into that is to work with small game studios and do freelance work with them then build up.
Sorry if it's too much information that doesn't make sense! But I hope this helped in some way.
Cheers.

No problem. When you know how things start to work it starts to get more clear on what you can do. I didn't know most of this until I had started with DHX for a while since I never asked. Feel free to leave me a note if you have any specific questions or just for anything, really.

I use a Wacom Cintiq 22HD [link] (you can check it out at Wacom's site in that link).
I also use an Intuos 4, small. [link] But due to convenience and faster productivity, I use the Cintiq more than the graphics tablet. I haven't used the Intuos for months now.

well i have a bamboo create, but i was looking for something alittle more complex, there seem to be more games on it then actual art utencils.

rollingstarr In reply to 1Hazelgracling [2013-03-10 08:27:04 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I see. I never did purchase the Bamboo Create because I've been told of those reasons. I can suggest an Intuos.. Better than a Bamboo Create and sans the game stuff. There are other tablet brands, too, but I've always just stuck with Wacom.
