The subjects and textures, composition and values in your work is really well done and amazing! Would you be kind enough to share some of your shading techniques with me?

You're welcome. I'd like to know about the tools you use to get that smooth shading and is there a go to process you always use? Also just general tips, thank you for your time, I appreciate it.

First of all, the choice of paper is really important. I like to use something that's quite heavy and has a smooth surface. I've really liked drawing on Canson card, because you can layer the graphite on it seemingly forever. The downside is, it will take a longer time to make the drawing look good, but so far it has provided the best control for shading. Another drawback is that I think it only comes in about 40 x 50 cm sheets and it might not be very easily available. I mostly use mechanical pencils: a 0,5 mm with 2H and B leads, and a 0,3 mm with HB lead. the 0,3 mm is great for covering any texture the paper might have. For the really light shades I've got some of the harder Koh-i-noor pencils, 6H to 10H.Β
While drawing, perhaps the most important thing is to always apply very little pressure. This makes it possible to slowly layer the graphite until you have the result you want. Pushing down too hard will flatten the fibers and after that there's very little you can do to alter those parts. If I'm not sure of the exact value I want for an area or detail, I often leave it too light at first. Making an area darker is easy, trying to make something lighter will make a mess. Whether you're covering a large area or drawing intricate detail, always use one way strokes. If you go back and forth, it will always make a darker spot where the motion stops, and it's really bothersome to try to cover up. There's just no cutting corners with drawing although I sometimes use a finger tip to blend some very light shades ONLY. I don't recommend this, and definitely not with darker shades... I don't really have experience with any blending tools, I just layer the graphite until I have the result I want.
Drawing from life or a photograph is always useful. What you learn will be useful even if you prefer drawing from imagination. Never rush to complete a piece if you don't have to - I can't overstate the importance of patience. Be critical of your work, but not overly so. I started learning graphite drawing doing portraits and whenever I finished one, I would look at it until I found something I wasn't happy with (usually the hair, haha), and made it a point to do at least a bit better next time.Β
So, basically, drawing is a humongous time sink I visited your gallery and based on your work you probably know lots of what I said already. The "dreamscapes" ones and a couple others are quite nice! I hope at least some of this is useful to you.
