I do miss it, especially the quality of life. But I have also really settled in in the US, since I've been here for 11 years.

Yeah exactly, it's that kind of feeling: just getting used to it. (that's kind of existentialist XD)

Well, my grandma grew up in Indonesia - like many other Dutch people from that generation - and I have a problem with what Dutch people do with their so-called "Indonesian food". LOL.

I know, right! The first time I've ever heard of rijst tafel was in Holland and I was like, that's SO not Indonesian as if you go to Indonesia and ask for it, they wouldn't know what you're talking about!!! And quite a lot of the dishes are quite sweet as well, definitely can't hold a candle to the real one! The only decent ones is probably the ones in Den Haag Mind you, it's better than nothing as I can't find any Indonesian restaurant/takeaway here

Where about did she grow up? Have you been there?

Haha yeah! Well, the ones in Den Haag are better because of the large population of "Indos".

My paternal grandma grew up in Surabaya, and my maternal grandma grew up in Medan. Very common places for Dutch people to live in those days, lol. I have never been there, and I don't believe my grandmother went back often either. She was imprisoned in the Japanese camps during WWII, maybe that's why.

Definitely! That's actually one of my fave places there as I also loved Scheveningen

Yeah, probably same here but after the war she still taught English to Japanese kids, can you believe that? Amazing.

Scheveningen is a great place, except when the weather is good and all of Holland is there as well. XD my parents and grandparents are all from that area, so I went there often.

LOL, I know! I used to live near Zaandvoort and compared to Scheveningen, it's not as busy but I think that when you live so close to something, it kinda loses its novelty XD Especially when you're stuck with the visitors smelling of sweat in the train on a daily basis XD
