D40x's are good to and a little cheaper if your on a budget.

well if you put a macro lens on it then yes its good with macros.
and i never use flash. and yes its good in low light.

well getting an slr styled camera is dumb. youll have basically just a bigger point and shoot.
and using an slr is easy. i learned mine in like a week. its hard to suck with them. and it doesnt make sense to me to buy a camera now and then get another in a year.

well D40s are coming with a decent 2 lens kit right now. for not too much in the slr world. its nice id recommend that kit. itd be a good starting camera that you can develop well wiht. just make sure if you go for it to get the D40X not the D40
