# About me

I am, at heart, a nerd. I was in marching band for four years in high school, where I also spent two and a half years as the literary club's president. I learned Magic my senior year - the year that I also got the nickname "queen of the nerds" from some of the Latin club kids - though I'm not very good at it. I was a perfect (if sleep-deprived) teachers' pet, and never snuck out to see random, sketchy guys.

And if that weren't enough, I plan to teach a dead language for a living. Because it fascinates me, and it should fascinate you, too.

I'm not a VISUAL artist, but a literary one, and if you want to read some of my works, go to fanfiction.net - I use the name "scriptrix-scriptorum" there (it's more grammatically correct in Latin, but I couldn't change it here). Those stories will probably end over here, but they'll be published there first.

I am sarcastic, lazy, opinionated, and verbose. If you can't handle that, I'm sorry...but there are plenty of other people in the world for you, and I, to be friends with. (But I do like making friends...if you're interested...)

Current Residence: East Tennessee
Favourite genre of music: Rock, jazz, musicals, classical
MP3 player of choice: Ipod
Personal Quote: "Those who see beauty must sometimes walk alone."

Judex credaris esse venturis
In te Domine speravi
Non confundar in aeternum
Salvum fac populum tuum
Judex Credaris
Libera me Domine
Libera me Domine de morte aeterna....
If you love Latin, you love the Hunchback! I recommend you listen to this song "Sanctuary" on the soundtrack. I too adore Latin, and after taking Spanish for four years I see more connections than I can even count. The word Domine for instance means Lord in Latin- Domingo in Spanish is the word for Sunday and yet Sunday is the Lord's day, the day we set aside as a holy day and go to church. And another interesting thing-A.D does not mean "after death", it means ano Domine, or "the year of our Lord", interesting considering ano in Spanish means year also... Sorry for the ramblings- pray you could teach me more Latin? I plan to take it next semester in college

You're welcome! And smut is always good. I'm not that good at writing it, though Jareth keeps insisting that I should...arrogant prat. One day, I'll write him as an evil villain, and break all the fangirls' hearts. *evil laughter*

True...but I think he's currently mad at me. Apparently, the last few things I've written haven't stood up to his stringent standards of His Royal Highness's sense of self importance. (First Sarah mocks him, then she turns him down for someone else...) I would be sympathetic, but he really does bring it upon himself. Arrogant prat.

You're welcome! I loved his expression - it's that insanely difficult balance between sexy and plotting. (Which I have, apparently, managed to capture in my "Patience Is Not A Virtue" series, if you're interested.)

...I agree with you, though: a one-dimensional, fluffy-cute Jareth isn't realistic at ALL, and ANY character like that is just boring. He needs a little spice, whether overt or covert. (My Jareth started out with overt...and then switched to covert when that started backfiring. *amused*)

Welcome to DA!!! I hope to see more of your writing soon

(particularly Laby fics XD )

You've got cool interests, btw. I know basically no latin, but I'd like to one day. In fact, judging by the Devious Info, you've got pretty good taste all round

Cheers!

If you want to learn Latin, just realize that you're going to have to learn many, many endings. In English, you often know which word is which part of speech because of its placement in a sentence. (Subject / verb / direct and indirect objects, prepositional phrases, etc.)

Latin doesn't give a damn about word order. It's all endings.

And in order to know what ending to use (or how to interpret the ending that you just saw), you'll have to know a LOT of grammar - but it will improve your grasp of English grammar immensely. I never fully understood the distinction between direct and indirect objects (or the many different verb tenses, and active vs. passive voice) until I started taking Latin.

Handy example: "Scriptor" roughly means scribe, author, writer. "Scriptor scriptorum" means "writer of writers" or "the writers' writer."

And I could keep going...but I'll stop before I bore you. Just tell me if you're still curious...I can keep pulling out random trivia facts...

Go on!! I love trivia! *hides glasses in attempt not to look like a nerd* XD

The only Latin phrase I managed to learn off by heart is 'Fac ut gaudeam'... and I can't even remember how the heck you spell the last work I could easily fix that by an internet search, but then, that would ruin the whole point of 'memorised', wouldn't it?

scriptor-scriptorum In reply to OpenLocks [2009-06-29 06:43:01 +0000 UTC]

Latin has no articles. A, an, the...they simply don't exist in Latin. You have to infer them when you're translating.

Latin also rarely uses pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, they). Verbs are conjugated (given specific endings) so that the person (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and number (singular or plural) is included in the verb (along with tense, mood, and voice). Verb endings do a lot of work. Possessive pronouns (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) are, like articles, generally inferred with the verb, though they CAN be independently expressed. Oh, and you can infer men/things if you need to. Whee trivia.

"Fac ut" is a meaningless phrase without the verb, and I've lost my baby dictionary. (This counts as a crisis of state, BTW. It was my favorite.)

Random NEW phrase for you: Fortis fortuna adiuvat. "Fortune (fortuna) favors (adiuvat) the brave/strong [men](fortis)."

I've been playing around with Patience, adding to it little by little...but still haven't done anything with the new idea. (It's much more introspective than anything I've written so far, except maybe "The Tradition's Nightmare". And Sarah is FAR less antagonistic than in Patience.)
