Hey, haven't heard anything of you for a while
How're you doing? Still surviving? Even if it is day by day, or even hour by hour, I'm sure you're strong enough to make it through x

Hey- thanks for thinking of me. I haven't been online much lately. Short attention span... Things are going okay. I have started therapy with a new person. I'm trying to get help through a state run agency. I'm hoping to start with a DBT group this summer. I'm kinda hesitant to get too excited about therapy. It never seems to help but I'm going to give it 100% this time. If it starts getting tough, maybe it means it working right? I'm surviving and stable on my meds right now.

How are you doing? Is life treating you well? I hope so. You have always been a wonderful support and it means a lot that you took time to say hi.

It's good to hear from you and great to hear you're stable
I've never been one for therapy, but I think if things start getting tough it must be doing something. Facing what's in your head isn't all that easy and therapy is essentially doing just that - peeling away the layers of protection you've built up until you get to the pain so you can learn how to deal with it. I guess.. I'm no expert.

I'm okay - getting though. Uni is getting harder, but that's expected, I just have to step up the amount of work I'm doing to keep up with lectures. I read that Caleb Carr book you suggested - amazing! I've also bought the sequel, though I haven't read it yet. I'm trying not to read lots of books at once so I'm sticking with the 5th Harry Potter (I love Harry Potter ) and Anthony Kiedis's autobiography
Great to hear you're still going, and I hope this new therapist can help you x

I've never been into therapy either. It's never done me any good in the past but I figured I'd give it another shot. Who knows? Maybe this time will be different.

I'm glad to hear that Uni is hard, that means you're learning lots of new stuff. I always loved that about school, being challenged and learning. If I could I would be a full time student for life! I'm glad you liked The Alienist. Is the Kiedis book Scar Tissue? You can't go wrong with Harry Potter! I absoulutely loved all 7 books. My husband bought me an e-reader (colorNook from Barnes & Noble) and I love it. I'm reading so much more right now. Have you read the Hunger Games? If not you have to check it out. It's a "young adult" series and I loved it. If you haven't read it- add it to your to read list.

I'll do better about keeping in touch. Keep working hard at school!

L-E-M In reply to selfinflictedscars [2011-02-18 22:48:14 +0000 UTC]

Let's hope so

I like being challenged and learning, so long as it's about something I'm interested in, but at the moment I just don't have the motivation to revise and research and read up on what I'm learning about in lectures :S
Yes, the Kiedis book is Scar Tissue I've not got very far though, distracted by Harry Potter, lol. Never heard of the Hunger Games, I shall check them out
I've always found I prefer having an actual book in front of me, I've never used an e-reader but I don't much like reading books on the computer. I don't know why.

I fought the whole ereader thing as well. I will always love and own books. I work for Barnes & Noble and my company developed the ereader that my husband bought me. I have to admit that I love it, even though I wanted to hate it!

Haha, I'd probably be the same. I love technology, I love computers... I'm a bit of a nerd really but I also love my paper and ink If I ever had an e-reader I'd probably fall in love with it sooner or later. But for now I think I'll stick with books. Reading The Order of the Phoenix, I forgot how whiney Harry is.. I haven't read it for ages. Have you ever tried audiobooks? I got the Harry Potter books read by Stephen Fry the other day, they're wounderful it's probably partly Stephen Fry, the way he reads them is just fantastic, and so relaxing My friend got me into them, she has a few different books now and loves them all x

I have so many friends who love listening to audio books and I never have. I should try them on my next road trip. I'm sure I'd love them if they are read by the right person. I just don't understand how one reader can represent so many different characters! It just seems impossible.

L-E-M In reply to selfinflictedscars [2011-02-25 12:34:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've only heard Harry Potter read by Stephen Fry, and Stephen Fry's a genius he goes off the books for people's voices/tones/attitudes instead of the films. I've no idea what other people are like reading audiobooks. My friend sent me an this Harry Potter quiz the other day [link] it's excellent procrastination (I was revising at the time)

It's not a problem! Sometimes I see the picture, I know it is good, but it is not what I really like, and I do not put it to favorites. I often just write some words.
An I was curious about why you added me to your watch list.
thank you for reply.

If only I still lived in Boston. Now I'm living in a beach community where the only "graffiti" you see here is done by spoiled, rich kids who think they're cool because they wrote their name on a wall.

I will have to live vicariously through your art.

Why did you leave Boston - looking through your faves i found a couple of photographs of it ? Are you far away from it ??

selfinflictedscars In reply to cmdpirxII [2010-12-10 15:44:03 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately I'm about 1100 miles south of Boston now. I left to start a new life. In Boston my husband and I were homeless for quite some time due to my hospitalizations (because I couldn't keep a job). We needed a major life change.

But it will always be home. I go back in March and I'll take some photos and post them.
