Hello Serbus! Have you ever heard of a 3D modelling programme called Sketchfab? Cloud suggested it a while back but I forgot to mention it to you.

Ah, yes, Sketchfab isn't so much a modeling program as it is a model viewer. It's great to embed on portfolio sites so people can look around your model or environment, but as far as I know you can't actually build models with it. There's a couple free modeling programs available. Blender has the most features and is probably best for game design ( www.blender.org/ ). Some people use Google Sketchup and I found a portable program the other day called Wings 3D: www.wings3d.com/ It's small, and doesn't have a lot of capabilities, but pretty easy to use and great for basic OBJ assets.Β There's also Sculptris, but that produces high poly models which are not intended for games. I love using Sculptris for painting textures though. pixologic.com/sculptris/ UV Layout is an awesome, quick program for making UVs (not a modeling program, but helps speed up the texturing process by flattening the geometry to be coloured).
If I were just starting out, I would use Wings3D to build my low poly object. Then I would UV the object with UV Layout. Then import it into Sculptris to paint diffuse and normals. Or alternatively, make a high poly version using Sculptris then put it back into Blender to transfer normal maps. Then I'd use Photoshop or Gimp to paint a specular map.Β I like to do those by hand, but you can also do them in Sculptris by working with grayscale and exporting it the same as a diffuse. Last, I would use Blender to Rig, animate, and export the object as an FBX for use in Unity... which is a lot more complicated than it sounds. But yeah!

Wooow I was shocked when I saw this pop up in my messages! xD And yeah, sorry I did mean "viewer", not modelling programme as such. I should have specified that earlier, sorry. Thank you for telling me this! I was thinking of using Wings 3D someday, actually. Modelling has always left me nervous, but giving it a quick try couldn't hurt. Hopefully my machine will handle it. :')
Haha, it does sound complex haha. Hopefully you're right.

I have a quick question, what kind of paper do you use for your drawings?
π: 0 β©: 1
serbus In reply to Seiya-Fantasy [2015-06-02 01:59:41 +0000 UTC]
Honestly, I just use regular sketch paper.Β I really like the Pacon brand from walmart, it seems to blend best with the markers I use (prismacolour cool grays mostly).
