Nothing terribly fancy.
I used an Olympus C8080WZ on a tripod mounted over a large pot of water. I put some water into a beaker, and poured into the center of the pot (or tried to at least) where I was fully zoomed in in macro mode. I had a flash enabled, and the highest shutter speed my camera could do.
When I would pour the liquid, I would take the shot. I then adjusted the height from which I would start this, until eventually I was seeing droplet splashes. I did a good deal of sharpening work in photoshop to make it look really good. Increasing contrast and using unsharpen mask does wonders with refractive surfaces it seems.

No problem. I've been trying to capture the same kind of image, but without much success. My Olympus has a good deal of shutter lag. I've been able to get pretty close by turning on continuous shutter mode and just holding down button. I've captured some images, but I haven't been able to get the cool wave action that you had.
