I have to respond to your message here, because DA is wierd again. Jesus just built on what was already made. If you read 1 Corintheans 13 you will get an idea on how God and Jesus really want us to live. Christianity does teach us to live morally and loving, and kind. We shouldn't need to live by the old laws, because that is the Old Covenant. It was for the time, because people wouldn't accept the teachings as well back then.

I am familiar with 1 Corinthians 13, but that is Paul speaking, I happen to be a fan of Paul, however, christ does not advocate such things. He explicitly states that the old laws are still in effect

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17)

Christ even goes as far as criticizing the very people he went to save for not behaving according to the old law (killing unruly children). (Mark 7:10)

Christ may have been a "new covenant", but he still wants people to follow the old laws.

“Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law" (John7:19)

Paul, I agree, is a pretty good guy, but wouldn't christ kind of overrule him in the decisions of morallity?

Jesus just wants us to be loving and kind towards all of man. He doesn't want us to follow the ways of the Old Covenant, He wants us to live lovinly and kind towards each other. The law in John 7:19 was the commandments as well.

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-04 01:46:10 +0000 UTC]

Yet christ says, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." (Matthew 15:24) It appears then that he came to save his own people. As I listed before christ explicitly says that the rules of the old covenant are still intact, all 613 of them.

Even if the laws in John 7:19 contain the ten commandments, there are still hundreds of laws condoning rape, murder, slavery, and genocide.

man-cool In reply to shellwen [2008-08-04 01:52:32 +0000 UTC]

It was only for the people who are living by the Old Covenant. We should follow all 613 laws, true. But God took all of the mutilation punishments for the people under the New. Only by trying our best to follow the 10 Commandments, which are a brief summery of the 613, and living faithfully towards the life that God wants us to live, is the only way the follwers can be saved. We don't need to do those punishments any more any way.

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-04 01:58:09 +0000 UTC]

Uhm... to the best of my knowledge, there is no biblical reference to god removing only the mutilation punishments. Would you be kind enough to have some references to where specifically god does this?

Secondly, many of the 613 laws have nothing to do with the ten commandments slavery, rape, and genocide are not mentioned in the ten commandments, yet they are still "the word of god."

Jesus told us in the Gospels that we should be loving and caring towrds each other and to have forgiveness towards all man for their inequides.

You fail to answer my question. Where exactly does christ or god decide that the old laws are no longer in play.

Dodging my questions do not make them go away.

And most of the love and caring stuff was Paul. Just thought I'd let you know.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

man-cool In reply to shellwen [2008-08-04 20:33:57 +0000 UTC]

It was when He established the New Covenant for the non-Jews. The old laws were in effect because the people were so slow to learn.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-04 20:45:08 +0000 UTC]

He never established a new covenant for the non jews. Again, as I placed above, christ said that he came only for his lost sheep of Israel. He never explicitly says that the non jews can join in. If I am wrong, please provide passages in which he does this.

It you read the beginning of the book of Acts, there will be some stuff you are aking for, as well as some stuff in the Gospels.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-05 03:01:05 +0000 UTC]

Again, Acts, like 1 Corinthians, is second hand stuff. Christ outlined his will, most things after the gospels are only peoples interpretations of what they think christ wanted.

Even the gospels are peoples interpretations of what happened (if they even did), many of the gospels contradict each other. If they were inspired by god wouldn't they all have the same account?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

man-cool In reply to shellwen [2008-08-05 18:11:09 +0000 UTC]

They were inspired by God, or else Jesus wouldn't allow them to be writtin. All 4 Gospel writters were desciples, and they all lived with Jesus when they were writtin.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-05 20:46:12 +0000 UTC]

And that is a boldface lie. There were no disciples by the name of Mark or Luke.

Even if there were people around christ constantly wouldn't they atleast be able to get thier stories straight?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

man-cool In reply to shellwen [2008-08-05 20:49:49 +0000 UTC]

The stories were told by the points of view. They all had different views on how the things went down. They also go into different places that the others didn't.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-05 20:54:03 +0000 UTC]

Mark and Luke were not written by the disciples, and the whole idea about being disciples is they go everywhere with him.

Riddle me this, if christ told his disciples to wait at the front of the garden when he went to pray before his crucifixion, how do they know what happened. Chances are a majority of the bible is made up.

I'm more pointing towards that the bible is wrong, by the way. And if one part of "the perfect word of god" is wrong, then who is to say that the entire thing is wrong.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

man-cool In reply to shellwen [2008-08-05 20:57:39 +0000 UTC]

The majority of the Bible has to be believed by faith alone. Many things are not told in the Bible becuase God wants us to be able to have faith in Him. Only by trusting God we will have waht we need and NOBODY in my church even cares about wierd little details. It's easier that way. I also am soley proof of His existance.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-05 21:03:17 +0000 UTC]

Just because not dealing with the details is easier does not make it correct. The bible is the supposed word of god. If the details are wrong then the word of god is wrong and the bible is wrong.

Personally I don't care whether people in your church don't care about it, it still needs to be dealt with.

If you are so certain of your faith, I would like for you to move a mountain please.

Christ says you can. Matthew 17:20: "And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you."

Televised would be good.

I have a little problem with that and I have the scripture right here!!!

Matthew 13:53-58
53When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. 54Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?" they asked. 55"Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" 57And they took offense at him.
But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor."
58And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-05 22:31:08 +0000 UTC]

your point being?

This verse has nothing to do with your inability to move mountains.

This only points out that christ refused to do miracles because he didn't like the idea that the people watching him rightly wondered how he did it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

man-cool In reply to shellwen [2008-08-05 22:53:44 +0000 UTC]

That's not it at all. Just read the last sentance and you will know why. "But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor."
58And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith."
There is lack of faith with you, so there is no ability to perform miricles with you. If you ACTUALLY read it, it is exactaly what you want!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shellwen In reply to man-cool [2008-08-05 23:07:39 +0000 UTC]

In verse 57 he's expressing the irony that in his hometown that he can not seem to find recognition.

Verse 58 still shows christ refused to do any miracles because of their skepticism.

On that note, I would like to voice my goodbye. You have answered none of my questions while I have answered all of yours, you consistently refuse to follow logic and change subjects when your belief system is threatened.

I feel that nothing more can be gained from this conversation. I wish you the best. Perhaps someday you too will turn a skeptical eye to your own religion, just as I did to mine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

man-cool In reply to shellwen [2008-08-05 23:17:22 +0000 UTC]

There is NO logic that can be followed in Christianity. There are a lot of things that can't be explained even if you used over a million scientists. I only believe you can't understand any of this because you are not open to any of it.
