they were just so well made! I am too impatient, and tend to rush through some projects.

It's definitely taken me quite some time to get to this point, but your own prop work is pretty impressive as well! Don't get discouraged by impatience, either; it happens to the best of us.

I want to get into making silicon molds of stuff to make resin casts of props. that way i can do large batches to sell

It's pricey, and tricky to do, but that's also something I'd like to get into (for certain prop items; 3dmg is right out for full-casting, I think). I've done smaller things like action figure parts and the nails on the bat-cane prop I made, and those were fun to do. Β If you have the opportunity to work with rtv silicone and resin casting, go for it!

I have made silicone molds forΒ smash-able prop bottles before, but have never done anything large scale before. I will have to do a bit of research before doing anything crazy because like you said; silicone rubber is expensive

From the look of it, most people that do large-scale molds do kind of a silicone-mold coating, and then make a rigid form for it out of plaster or fiberglass, which I would suspect cuts down on the amount of silicone used. The part I'm not quite clear on is "slush casting" the resin in hollow mold forms.

From my experience, it is like making smash bottles, you just pour in the resin or what material you want, and then spin the mold around, coating the interior with the material.Β

I had thought it was some sort of a sugar-mix that they used to make them. What did you make them for?

I am thinking of making a laser rifle from fallout 3. I am also thinking of making some more fallout stuff including an NCR Ranger outfit, but I need to get some more money before I can get the materials.

Ah, I don't know if you've followed Volpin Props at all, but he did a pretty extensive build on the laser rifle that could serve good inspiration. Though I hear ya; the funds for materials is usually what holds me up on my own projects.
