Hola! tengo una duda sobre maya que espero me puedas ayudar porfavor con ella.
Estoy haciendo un personaje, más concretamente un esqueleto, ya sabes, cráneo, costillas, de esos que se ven tenebrosos; y al hacer los rigs ya listos para animar, pensé que ya que prácticamente cada hueso del modelo 3D corresponde a algún hueso del rig, y los huesos no son muy elásticos que digamos, podría funcionar mejor aplicar parent a cada hueso por separado, puesto que no es un modelo orgánico.
¿Tú qué opinas? funcionaría bien? ¿o crees que sea mejor hacer un bind?

Funcionaria sin ningun problema, solo que pienso que podria ser problematico ya que tengas animaciones mas avanzadas o cuando quieras anadir IKs por ejemplo. Pero es aun posible. Si lo haces cada uno, te dara mucho control por objecto y mas velocidad para hacerlo, pero sera dificl que todos sigan el mismo camino y cosas asi, tendas que hacer muchos grupos. Si usas asi los parents y el bind tendras tambien bastante control un poco mas de tiempo en hacerlo pero al final te ahorraras mucho tiempo al animar.
Te conviene enparentar los huesos en general, porque asi puedes torcer el esquelto y el torso facilmente y sin problema al igual que moverlo. Tambien puedes darle IKs a las piernas para que se doblen bonito.
Ahora para quitarle lo smooth al bind usa el Rigid bind como primera opcion, y luego ya que tengas eso ve como se ve cuando mueves los huesos, sino te gusta como Maya le da los weights a los huesos entonces puedes picar el hueso usar el paint weight tool y basicamente es un numero de 1 a 0 (blanco a negro) mientras mas blanco sea mas el hueso modifica esa parte, mientras mas negro menos.
Asi que con eso puedes hacer que un hueso solo actue en una costilla por ejemplo aunque este emparentada con el torso al igual que el hueso del torso le pintas de negro lo que no quieras que modifique.
Entonces resumen de lo de arriba:
1) Es bueno emparentar porque es mas facil controlar el modelo, animar y poner IKs.
2) Puedes usar Rigid bind para quitar lo suave al bind. Basicamente le quitas lo organico.
3) Despues usa el paint weight tool picando en cada hueso y veras que a lo que este pegado cada hueso. (la "piel" que es basicamente tu modelo) se dibujara en escala de grises pinta de negro para que no afecte el hueso esos vertices y si lo pintas de blanco lo afectara al 100%. Tienes un pequeno "slider" para cambiar el valor y tambien como rellena.
4) Revisa como se ve y pinta asi para cada hueso. Basicamente estas haciendo el rigging.

Muchas gracias! Ya lo probé todo y realmente me gusta cómo quedó el movimiento, cada hueso del modelo se mueve de acuerdo con su rig respectivo.
Si, supongo que mientras más avanzado sea lo que hago, y mientras más intente hacerlo ver realista, tendré que implementar medios más complicados, pero como apenas aprendo, creo que puedo todavía ahorrarme un poco eso y experimentar con cosas un poco más simples XD

Si eso funciona tambien, luego ensename el maya file para ver como te quedo.
Si, como te daras cuenta puedes hacer todo en muchas maneras, pero por ejemplo para juegos es bueno tener solo un bone root y de ahi todo. Generalmente todos los engines hacen eso, puedes poner mas pero no esta optimizado como debe de ser.

Well I'm right now working at Nvidia, it has been pretty awesome Working on Paralell Nsight, which is graphics/cuda debugger and profiler. Pretty sweet stuff

Still in school. I hope to graduate in 2015. I am just going for a general bachelors of business degree as that will probably help me get the furthest as to where I currently am in my job. And maybe after I get my degree and a couple of promotions, I will look into going outside my university and go for an art degree at the Art Institute.
