I may be able to help you draw Tails if you're interested (and if I can remember my method; my Tails-drawing days were a fair 15 years ago, now!).

I recommend a simple drawing package to start with, but not MS Paint unless you want it a) specifically doodley, or b)small, intricate pixel art. Nothing fancy; an old copy of Paint Shop Pro 7 is ideal to just mess with. It really is worth it!

For lineart, drawing with a mouse is a bitch so scanning pencilwork (after inking the lines with a black pen) is a great cheap alternative.

Hope that's of some use to ya!
