I'm pretty new at photography myself. I've learned to take lots of pictures of one thing from many different angles. Remember, photography is primarily luck. Also, don't just go around taking random pictures of random things. Look for things that have a deeper meaning and figure out a way to express it in the photo.

I've actually never developed a picture by myself, I use a digital camera (which is probably where the problems arise)
That'd be awesome though!

You have to keep in mind one thing, digital or chromatic photos is almost the same, the most important setting is the ISO speed of your film.
For a picture, Lower ISO is ALWAYS better. It is the last setting to move, only if it's absolutly necessary to keep the photo sharp. (from 50 to 800 or 1600 for a lot of cams)
After that, for a sharper pic, with less blur, you have to set a higher aperture speed (higher is better against blur) (from 4seconds to 1/1000s for a lot of cams)
And the last setting is the aperture size, there is no rule for this one, the lower you set it means more light will enter in your cam... Just play with it to adjust the lightning, but it is a secondary setting.
Hope it'll help you.
Remember, if you take a close shot of you (less than 30~40 centimeters) set your Camera to "Macro" and if you take a shot very close, choose "super macro" (almost all digital cams have theses mods)
For real developing, go to a real club in your city, i'm sure there's some, u'll learn a lot of amazing things !! (that you will teach me after that
