hm... tips... well first off, I think it's always good to have a plot and general idea before you start writing. Get to know your characters... sit back and ask them questions about themselves legit!! write down things about their past and what you'd like to see for their future, what they look like and why they act certain ways. Once you have a good character foundation, you can go a LONG way!!!!

also, you don't always have to write a story beginning-> end. I often write very emotional or tense moments and save the excerpts for later to put into the story, and I fill around it with minute details. Don't be afraid to go into detail about scenery and actions!!! lol I tend to ramble when it comes to writing

well... make your dream character. Someone who looks beautiful to you and has a wonderful personality and everything! Then give them a crippling flaw... make them deadly ill or unable to control their rage, or given a power so intense that it is nearly unable to be contained! That gives the story immediate interest and is a launching pad for a wonderful conflict! Then you have other, static characters that are much less important, but still entertaining. These can be funny, afraid, alone, indecisive, enemies, supportive friends, or old wise guys with a balding head lol make the story your own and give it some real good characters that can carry it along when it might otherwise be boring
