AlChemistMCMLXXXVII In reply to sta12s [2005-05-22 19:21:05 +0000 UTC]

it is not a theory, it is mere fact, that cubans who live in the US, most of them, think differently about what goes on there, and about the whole US-Cuba issue.

no, not yet. my grandfather was there in 62-63. so i kinda have this invisible bond to it for some reason.

sta12s In reply to AlChemistMCMLXXXVII [2005-05-22 20:05:01 +0000 UTC]

I understand the bond - my mother had all her families' land taken away and all the money out of their bank accounts went to Castro.

AlChemistMCMLXXXVII In reply to sta12s [2005-05-22 20:10:25 +0000 UTC]

exactly. it was like that in russia too, after 1917. except that that happened to the minority. the majority were poor and desperate, so they welcomed the new rulers.. i am authorized to say anything about the situation in Cuba, except that nevertheless i have great respect for people like Castro and Che, and I love CUba

AlChemistMCMLXXXVII In reply to sta12s [2005-05-22 20:20:39 +0000 UTC]

should i respect Batista? or should i respect Bush, or Clinton, or Johnson, or Nixon, or Reagan, or Ford? politics is politics. it is legalized murder. unless you suggest total anarchy, which would not be that bad

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sta12s In reply to AlChemistMCMLXXXVII [2005-05-22 20:28:33 +0000 UTC]

I never mentioned Bush, Clinton or any other political (aka lying bastards) figure. I'm just asking what is so great about those guys? Castro is a liar and Che is a thug. No matter who you don't like, that doesn't mean you have to go to polar end and like the guys on that side - that's juvenile.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AlChemistMCMLXXXVII In reply to sta12s [2005-05-22 20:32:52 +0000 UTC]

i dont go to the polar sides. i just respect them. it is always the ones who do something... terrible? in the eyes of some that are hated and loved the most. the rest of the population, 99% of it are spineless sloths who are not worth any respect. that is why i respect CHe, no matter what others say. he stood up for what he believed in, and he died for it. Castro is a bit different, but still very similar. it is merely my opinion, but it is based on facts and observations of trends in society

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AlChemistMCMLXXXVII In reply to sta12s [2005-05-22 20:44:33 +0000 UTC]

let it be that way. nevertheless, your opinion is merely an opinion, nothing more. and remember, we are all murderers. no human stands isolated from the rest of the world. so we must take the blame too, no matter how small

sta12s In reply to AlChemistMCMLXXXVII [2005-05-22 21:00:01 +0000 UTC]

I never killed anything but an ant - and then I felt bad for it!

See - it is one thing to be ignorant and it is another thing to be stupid. True that 99% of the people in this world have no spine (I think it's a much smaller figure then that when you take into consideration the small things people must over come in life, but that's another issue...), but an even more alarming figure is this one - almost all people see but they do not understand. People listen but they do not hear. People react and rarely act. Originality is conformed to society and life's lessons learned from thousands of years ago are tossed to the wind as out-dated. The people of this world continue to re-invent the wheel when all they have to do is surrender to the fact that people have been through everything we're going through right now - and until that happens, not that I think it every could, history will continue to repeat itself. The only differance between now and then is the details.

I don't care what -archy it is, it will not work. It hasn't before, so why would it now?

AlChemistMCMLXXXVII In reply to sta12s [2005-05-22 22:13:05 +0000 UTC]

i am not saying it will work. i agree, it won't. But if i were to follow your logic, i would have to denounce EVERYONE. Peter the Great, Bismark, Louis XIV, Charlemagne, Julius Caesar, Stalin, Metternich, absolutely everyone. i think that would be foolish. i agree, these people had killed or caused others to kill. nevertheless, a lot of them deserve respect. at least concerning their transition from nothing into everything, from dirt and grime of poverty to the highest class, the rulers of nations.
as per ignorance, that is very true, i have to agree with you on that. i myself do not support any system that has existed to date. some of them have good aspects, some of them are very nice, and could produce good results, but only in the short run. i myself am for a totally new "system". it cannot even be called that, it denounces punishment and strict rule, because there would be no need or use for it. no matter how idealistic that may sound, i believe such a system is possible, but not in one night. it takes a handful, and then as a chain reaction, as a snowball keeps building up on a slope, it will spread to the greater masses. if you have read Isaac Azimov, The Foundation, you would know what i am talking about (the first foundation, the second, Terminus.. it all started out small). in no way have i used that as a model, since it is obvious that it would be like that, i am just bringing up an analogy into the discussion.

i do agree that people do not learn. otherwise we would not have all this shit going on now, and in the last 2000 years. nevertheless, i refuse to denounce people like Che and Castro. i will tell you something. my greatgrandfather fought in the Soviet-Finnish war, in 1939. for reasons unknown to me, he was sent to Shtrafbat (batallion for those who were guilty of something), although i have so idea as to why (the reason is most likely something very stupid, but nevertheless, the Soviet government sent him there). the only way to get out Shtrafbat was to be wounded in battle. he was, and was then reestablished in rank and regalia, and placed into a regular platoon. he was killed by the nazis in 1944 in Poland. i know, it is a minor issue, nothing compared to yours, but i do feel a little bitter over that incident. nevertheless, i cannot renounce completely and irreversibly Stalin. without him, the world would be speaking german now, and God knows if slavs would be alive altogether right now. same goes for most other great leaders, whether they killed or not.

First off - you're incredably knowedged for your age and by far the one of the most interesting cats I have come across in a long time.

This is my thesis on the respect of those who have done great harm - respecting one aspect of their achievement is understandable. However, when it is countered by countless acts of evil it is deminished. Let's take an extreme example - Hilter. He was by the one of the greatest speakers on earth, he could sell sand to a man in the desert and get vegans to eat raw meat. So if someone says I respect Hilter does that mean they were in favor of the countless lives that were lost to his views of pureity? I don't respect him, but I will acknowedge his good sides. The same for Che and Castro - they are not without their good points, but far from my admiration. I'll respect them in the sense that I am willing to show consideration or appreciation - I feel that twords all living things - but in the sense of regarding them with honor I can not. To go as far as to glorifying them is spiting in the faces of every person they have ever hurt.

AlChemistMCMLXXXVII In reply to sta12s [2005-05-23 02:05:29 +0000 UTC]

wow.. i feel quite flattered by your words.

i see your point, and i will be honest, i do share many of your points, if not all of them. i would say, however, that Hitler is an extreme case. yes, he had a few qualities that can earn admiration, but these were not humanitarian or samaritan qualities. Hitler left a terrible legacy, one of murder, genocide, war, the marring of great symbols and ideals that will take centuries to cleanse of his terrible propaganda. i would admire him if he raised Germany from ashes, but did not go as far as the extermination of millions of people.

i believe that every "great" person, may i call them that, have a bad side. EVERY SINGLE ONE. many we do not know about. thus, i cannot speak for everyone.. there is always someone who has suffered from them all, be it Che, Castro, Stalin, Metternich, Bismark, et cetera.. no matter how soft or anti-war they were, people always suffered. some suffered more than others. I in no way defend the bad things Castro and Che did, but nevertheless i believe they have done something greater than all the american presidents combined, except for maybe FDR.. they brought about an idea...

a small example i can bring up: Stalin, when he died, had only one pair of shoes, and the kremlin people had to run all around looking for a pair of new shoes.. just like Alexander the Great, buried with his arms extended and hands open.. "I have not taken anything," said he.. many of these people did things not for personal benefit.. once again, i do not know what went through their heads.. but i will tell you, a man that fights for the weak, one who sacrifices himself for a greater idea, deserves admiration. I cannot say i respect all renegade rogue fighters, but many of them deserve admiration and reverence.. once again, it is only my opinion.

i think we should rest this case. arguments over art are so much better
