hey I have another question for you regarding my villains. I know you said they seemed like good villains but I wanna know if they felt like they were sympathetic? that they felt like people with a real and valid reason for being the way they are

don't remember much of their pasts but if you end up a demon (and is not named neku) in hell, i doubt their reason was valid or need much sympathy.

well Clarissa was a normal girl who died and eventually became an Angel in the Higher Plane but missed her life in the living world so much that she was corrupted by her grief and became a Demon and Angels then tried to kill her, making her resent them and view them as people with a superiority complex and that they will simply kill anyone who's not like them.
and Anthony was Clarissa's sister and due to issues with the parents, they were separatedΒ at young ages with each parent getting custody over the separateΒ kids. They reunited in high school and college and decided to live together as a family but Clarissa died in a car accident leaving Anthony to live the rest of his life without her and lost her again in the Higher Plane thanks to Shiki killing her

clarissa then i would say is more sympathetic, if it was her grief that made her demon then the angels could have at least tried to help through it and possible turn her back.
ok so what made him a demon? you said clarissa got demonized because of her grief over being dead while in higher plane. so did he meet her in the higher and become demonized with her or was her "born" a demon when he died because of what happen when he was alive?

Yeah but just like with Neku the higher ups deemed it too dangerous and that it was impossible
As for Anthony, he became a demon from his grief and regret,and felt guilty that Clarissa died that maybe that wouldn't have happened if he had gone grocery shopping instead of her and that they both had their former Angel friends try to kill them

and they got proven wrong. lot of effort they tried.
so he was basically halfway demonized and went full demon when the angels got demon hunting. i could sympathize with him . . . if he hadn't tortured neku in his fight.

yeah I mean they were also trying to look out for the spirits of the Higher Plane since Demons are extremely dangerous and as you know (thanks to Neku's friends) just trying to save a demon and make them go back to normal can get the person attempting to save them killed
more like was with Clarissa and they both missed the RG, wishing they could've lived together. They became Angels but that regret and grief from missing out on so much and only being a family for such a short time made them become demons which caused their former friends that were Angels to try to kill them. They were betrayed.Β

well there's more than that. Anthony wanted to kill Neku to get back at Shiki for killing his sister Clarissa so Shiki would know what that feels like. He lost her twice and Clarissa was like the mom he never had due to when their parents got divorced, Clarissa went with the mom, and Anthony went with the dad

ah so neku was just a dragged in casualty. i can get the wanting to avenge family but his sis started it.

Exactly. But he never saw it that way. He saw it as him and Clarissa just doing their plan of creating a nearly unstoppable host, hoping that the person they choose to possess would become powerful enough to take over the Higher Plane and get rid of the Angels and Composers and their superiority complex (according to the demons at least). Clarissa dying wasn't part of the plan
