I don't know what paint you used but could you give his barnet an inky wash? 'Barnet Fair'=hair.

I use watercolour - with inky you mean... "blue"? or "dark"?

It probably wouldn't work then, might destabilise what was already painted if it's watercolour. I only do black and white so have a bottle of Quink and another I wash the brush off in. I give a wash with the lightly inky water behind a figure to make it stand out but thought his hair would look less pure white with a wash. Shadows can be done like this but the transparent watercolour would have to be applied after.

Yes, his hair was way too white, so I'd give it a darker wash - agreed! I'll try out how to do that with the background. Dried watercolour washes can be painted over... not too wet, though

No I haven't used that one, I'm currently using Hahnemuehle or Canson, they have excellent water colour paper.

Sorry about the hiatus-computer problems! I've rarely used colour. I think Bristol card is just best for ink sketches.
