well I just got my camera a few months ago and haven't been able to afford a new lens yet, so i'm still using the standard 18-55mm lens that came with it. I figure I'll do what I can and get really frustrated at the things I can't as I discover what they are (like take concert photos w/o a flash!!! even at iso 1600 b/c the f***ing f stop) ... guess I'm holding out till I figure out what kind of lens I really *need* for the kind of work I want to be doing. The only thing I really hate about this lens so far is that it only stops down to f/5.6 when I'm at the full 55mm zoom ... but what can I do?

Wow, When I used my kit lens with my IR filter there was always a huge annoying hot spot in the middle!! So I just bought the 50mm f1.8 for like $80... It sucks trying to get landscape shots but it doesn't give me the horrible spot in the middle of the photo.
Lol! And if you really get into it, the cost of lenses will soon surpass the price of the camera I'm trying to keep myself from hitting the "Order" button on a $1,200 lens but I don't know how long I can last, haha!
Well, good luck! You've definatly got the hang of it. I cant wait to see more

haha, I know what you mean about running away from the computer before you do something *bad. Yeah, I read something about that hotspot somewhere online when I was looking into IR . . . I thought it had something to do with the image sensor though? I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I had to send my cam to the canon factory service center about a month after I got it because there was something wrong with the flash and randomly one day my rebel turned off and wouldn't power back on! So when I sent it in they fixed the problem (whatever it was) and also tuned everything everything else. A 1.8 lens would be really nice for situations when there is not a lot of light (concerts) and I cant use a flash . . . ah, what I will do when I get an extra $80
