I've been decent enough, playing dat Magic as well as some DnD. I've been so inspired by Magic lately that I've wanted to make a minotaur character for myself, just for giggles, but I've been a tad stuck when it comes to writing these days. XP

Magic is an interesting case study in how to keep a property fresh over the span of 20 years. The planeswalkers, "main characters" so to speak, go from plane to plane dealing with problems there but also dealing with a larger evil threat. Each plane has its own unique story, creatures (generally speaking), and set up that keeps the game interesting and allows for extra media (books, comics, etc) to be made around the individual planes.

My personal favorites are Innistrad, Ravnica, Theros, and Kawigawa.

As for DnD, great character building exercise.

I actually want to create a D&D character of my own, but don't you need the dungeon master to give you a basis or something?

Indeed! Each new set takes place in a plane, they usually have three expansions, before then planswalking to a new one for a new set. It is a way to keep the narrative and story fresh.

A dungeon master's main duty is to guide you through the character creating process, but really it is up to you.
