Your stuff is awesome! You counselor is obviously a complete moron. As one that has completed art college I can, with confidence, say that graphic design would be a waste of time for you. You should go for Illustration. I have been to 2 colleges and on both the graphic designers were way TOO limited while illustration students got to play more with many types of media.
You obviously have a lot of talent and the best way for you to go is play. I know because i was because i was an illustrator student myself. Keep up the good work!
