np. The line details I see in all your pieces remind of the meticulous nature wood engraving prints. Strands of hair individually rendered, each drop of rain on a piece of clothing realized, and a fully rendered darkness to go with the bleak themes depicted, breath-taking in a way that would snuff a candle out.

Wow, thank you! I am always in awe with many of those old engravings, especially the work of Gustave Dore. To be compared to that is a real honor!

np! Goldberry gave the illusion of a brightness I've never seen in watercolors before (I feel like squinting reflexively to how the sun was painted) and the gradation to that bright yellow to the earthy green feels natural.

Thank you very much, I'm so pleased! I've learned this trick at some masterclass: that colors close to the sun disc should be lighter and warmer and further away - darker and cooler (like lemon yellow-dark-yellow-orange-burnt sienna) and tried it here. Apparently it works

Thanks, and np!

I enjoyed modernization that your kitbashes bring when brought alongside the original models . It shows how much work was put into it while still maintaining the original's identity. A lot of love was put into making the model more like a machine.

np. The more fantastical elements of your designs, facial proportions, and chunkiness (in a good way) of the body types in your princess series reminded me of Shinichi Kameoka's art from Legend of Mana .

np! There's a depiction of scale that I enjoyed with the figures in the foreground that makes you realize how large the orange structure is when you notice ships spilling out of the mouth. The almost barnacle like texture and cracks give the faces an aged appearance.

np! I like the baroque nature it has with the scene only being lit by the candle but the use of blues and purples to define the darker areas to complement the warmer orange and browns, just fantastic stuff.

Thanks! It was my first attempt to creating a background with lots of things so I reduced the colors in order to not go crazy lol

Glad you liked it! I've got an ongoing school project where I'll make a similar piece but with objects people send me pictures of. I'd love it if you could participate

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

talentlessfiend In reply to aix-x [2019-08-09 07:33:13 +0000 UTC]

I think the choice of reducing the colors helps the image not be as busy and give a better sense of color harmony.

The tough part is I might not own anything that gives that sentimentality that you're looking for with the Memoria Project, aix.

I do have a set of colored pencils I've owned since middle school, but that's more because I think, "Today's the day I finally get to use you for something!" yet the pages are still blank. A someday for a tomorrow that'll never come, my own multi-colored memento mori.

aix-x In reply to talentlessfiend [2019-08-09 09:57:16 +0000 UTC]

That works as well! Someone sent me some flowers they found because it reminded them of harmony and the possibilities future holds.

If you're interested, send me the picture of the color box

Regarding the use of color: I've seen some people draw lots of things with a super open color palette but I guess I'm not at that stage yet lol
I still need to, at least, use a similar color for shade or I'll feel something's not fitting

np. The frenetic lines you use along with some of the gorey aspects and exaggerated faces that you render reminded me of Ed Roth's illustrations .

Art burns too many calories sometimes.
