Oh, I am sooooooooo sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Belle! Your journal entry absolutely broke my heart. I'm sitting here, writing this note to you in tears. Having a Husky of my own, I know how special they are. And please do not beat yourself up with guilt! So often Huskies eat things they shouldn't that make them act a little off, and then they bounce back in a day or two. You had no way of knowing she was ill. And with her age, I think having incontinence is quite common. (My old Akita suffers from it occasionally.) She KNOWS you loved her dearly. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. Everyone has been so supportive and that has helped us tremendously. I'm sorry to take so long to reply, but I haven't been on DA much lately. (I've been using Facebook too much - lol - I created a group there in her memory). I know that I shouldn't feel guilty, but I think that's one of the parts of the grieving process. I wrote about her mainly as a kind of therapy. To get it all out; the grief, the guilt, the sadness, and even the happy times was very therapeutic for me and also I never want to forget all the things we went through at the time, even though it was hard. As a tribute to her memory, I want to remember all of it, even the raw grief we endured.

On a happier note, we have a new addition. We have a new puppy, named Sapphire Storm. She is half Siberian Husky and half Samoyed. She's all white and has one blue eye and one brown. I cannot stress enough that we were not trying to replace Belle, because we could never replace her, but just to fill the emptiness she left us with. Being dog lovers, life was just not bearable for us without having at least one canine family member.

If anyone understands your pain, it's me. I lost my big (Akita mix) "Kuma-bear" a few weeks ago, and the pain of losing him was nearly unbearable. He shared his life with us for 12 1/2 years and we miss him more than words can express.

My husband and I have had three dogs now that have lived to old age with us. It always hurts so much when it's time to say goodbye, but I guess that's the deal we make when we bring them into our lives. So we love them completely, and try to do everything to give them as much joy in their lifetime as they give to us.

I worried that Hunter, my Husky, would go into a depression, but it's as though he understands it was Kuma's time to go. Now he's the alpha dog (albeit the only dog) and we are spoiling him more than we should, but that's ok. I think we'll just stay a one-dog household for the time being, although I do look forward to the energy of having another puppy around someday.

I look forward to seeing pix of Sapphire Storm! I haven't been very active on DA lately either and I have LOTS of pix to catch up on.... Take care!

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss of Kuma. Hug Hug Hug Hug Hug I'm glad that Hunter has been able to accept it and is doing OK. I will try to post some pics of Sapphire, soon. I don't have too many on this computer, but I'll take some of the ones from Facebook and put them on here soon.

Even though everyday should be celebrated, Valentine's Day is a special day to give more love. What could be bad about that? The love you share doesn't have to be with a partner, it could be with a friends, family, or even a random person. A little card, a smile, or just a Happy Valentine's day greeting could warm anyones heart.
