Long story short, they ended up back on the Earth the Grebulons were destroying. Zaphod came along to rescue some humans (getting rescued by A Certain Infinitely Prolonged 1 in the process), & then went to a colony in Souliahnis. Jeltz, naturally, tried to destroy that colony. Hey, he has a vendetta against Arthur. What do you expect? However, Thor was on that planet & SENT PROSTETNIC FRICKING  JELTZ PACKING BY DESTROYING THE TORPEDOES BEFORE THEY HIT. Also, cheese wizards are involved.

I've read some of the books. After a while they just seemed to lose the plot and I lost interest. The first two are my favourites of the series I've listened to the radio drama and I'm still wondering why Hotblack Desiato didn't seem to be in it. I've seen the film and watched all of the series

I still know it wasn't during your 9th. It was definitely some time before your regeneration from your 8th incarnation to your 9th. Well, technically, the 1 who ended up played by Eccleston was the 10th. The Tennant 1 was the 11th. They were just the 9th & 10th to call themselves the Doctor, if you take what happened in the point in your life that was represented by John Hurt's portrayal of you into account.

I know but 8 was known to suffer from amnesia.

It was during the 4th incarnation I think and it had something to do with Zaphod losing Ford due to his playing with the improbability drive; Ford ended up in the TARDIS and I took him back to the Heart of Gold. It was there that I met Arthur (he made tea, at least it tasted and looked like tea)

I speak of Wowbagger, the infinitely prolonged & he of the insults. As to Random, she's Arthur & Trillian's daughter (You may remember her adventures being documented in episodes 23 through 26 of the Radio Drama). Also, after there adventures ended, I ran into the team (Our universe is not part of the multicontinuity that the Guide Mark 2 effected. It only effected those universes where some variant of the events depicted in the series happened). Somewhere along the line, Fenchurch, Slartibartfast, & Lintilla joined. A techie friend of mine by the name of Jérémie Belpois managed to fix Marvin.
