hmmm... i don't know any places that are really "cooler," but midtown is a really cool area to live. it's not as expensive as downtown and you'd be really close to all the cool shops and downtown as well. it also hosts the monthly art walk. [link]
i'm pretty sure it's in your price range because lots of students live in that area. definitely don't live in oak park or the florin/mack road area... they're kinda skeezy and ghetto.
i live in south sac, so it will be easy to visit.

i don't know much about davis since i've only been there a few times, i just know they have a great farmer's market lol

Midtown looks really cool. I would love to be around art, culture, music, etc. Oooh, I love farmer's markets; we have 3 a week in Monterey, and I love all the artisan products and the fresh crepes <3 It is just Davis that has one, or does Sac have a farmer's market as well?

Dude, I'm totally dreading the summer heat there. Does it really get up 95 degrees in July/August?

sac does have farmer's markets as well. oh dude, in july and august, it's past 100, but i don't think it's as bad as southern california. there's a possibility that i'll be moving to san francisco within the next two weeks to try to get jobs down there, but i'll still be able to see you easily when you move up here
i take it that you've decided to go with uc davis right?

yeah, I'm like 95% sure I'm going to Davis. the only reason I might not go there is if I get accepted to Berkeley on the 30th; then it would be the prestige of Berkeley vs. the better classes for my major at Davis. I'm still really hoping to get into Berkeley though lol.
