We stayed at Perhentian Besar too that trip to Perhentian. Say, did you come across a family of five eating that stinky (but goddamn nice) durian, inviting everyone to join in? Well, that was us

LOL I can't remember being invited to eat Durian with you guys - but I'm pretty sure I'd have declined - smells terrible! Does it really taste good?

Hell yeah durian tastes good. Rich texture, creamy, and there's an aftertaste to it. But Siamese durians are mostly bland(er). There was a Russian guy who took up our offer and ate like a pro. But his wife wouldn't even come within smeling distance! I still wonder whether he got kicked out of the chalet for the night, coz after eating durian, your breath, your burps, even your fart smell of durian. Don't laugh, I kid you not.
But still, with durian either you love it or you hate it. There's no in between. Generally speaking.
Have you tried Tioman Island? Or the beaches and islands of Sabah? They're majestic as well.

Yeah I must say I love the effect you achieve with the RAW shooting and adjustments! Truly unique. Have you by any chance tutorials written about doing this? I have a Canon450D which shoots good RAW images and would love to try this out.

I don't but I may make one soon. It has really just come through trial and error. Once you get the image in raw, I just cut all the highlights out and boost the shadows and then I mask out areas and use the curves tool to get the right effect. haha, maybe I'll try to make the tutorial soon!

Yeah, good to hear from you too. I left a while back because I really got tired of the community...when 100% of the new deviations on the front page are crap 99% of the time, it's pretty depressing. I'm back now though...for the moment at least.

Yeah that's the annoyance with DA... I don't go near the frontpage these days (and haven't for a good few years). I'm quite prolific over at Flickr but have recently come back to DA as the new v6 features are quite compelling.

Flickr is cool... nice and simple. Can just throw random stock up there in large bulk uploads (from iPhoto) or post specific artistic work. Suits my lifestyle. DA is still fun though

Its really tough to make a name for one self in the latter days of the late-web2.0 explosion. So much noise being generated as content-creation (read: spamming) medii (er, whats the plural of medium?) because so widely available to what I call "internet tourists". It's sad in some ways because it dilutes our influence... but I'm sure the early "E-Mail" and "BBS" users felt the same in the late 80s. I'm knuckling down and working hard for the next 18 months while the global economy corrects and will then reassess matters.
I've just finished my B.Sc final exams and am awaiting my final results. Got a great job next year at a local IT-startup specifising in the networking arena. I'll be developing webapps (in php/mysql and python mostly) for them, as well as heading the 'new business development' wing of the startup. Fun
