i'm working on a high-powered new ifs engine to succeed the hacked one i used so far (ham+mustard), so perhaps i can become a flame-fractal master in time that horrible delphi program has dominated for far too long

have you ever thought about hardware accellerated generating of the ifs points ?
it should be a pleasure doing 3d ifs flames on a shader ... this should work with shader model 3.0 also ...
beside of that, the 3d hack is a bit strange, and the worst thing is the lack of documentation ... what is linear 3d ?
i think most of the transformations used for the original flames algorithm could be extended to transform a 3d point ... and, hey, let us work together on a cool 3d ifs flame rendering app.... we could start using an freely available svn server like assembla.com ...

yup, and actually i've implemented gpu based ifs. unfortunately, it wasn't as flexible as i would have liked, and the rendering modes are quite limited so i gave it up. i'm pretty happy with the speed and flexibility of my new cpu-based rendering system though - it features many of my previous generalisations of the flame fractal algorithm and some new ones too (along with various 2d/3d rendering modes).
about extending the original formulae, i think breaking compatibility isn't such a good idea; rather one should make new ones and keep the old 2d ones as well.
regarding working together on my new renderer, i have a commitment to my good friend and fractal-sensei *Aexion , who has taught me fractal methods since 2006, to not compete against his program, incendia (the assisted development of which is a priority for me as well). so this program is pretty much like all my others: just for making some pixels on deviantart, a bit of fun together with . the main trouble with writing a "real" fractal rendering program is the user interface and support functionality, which is way more code than the rendering engine where i prefer to spend my free time. maybe someday i will opensource the engine in the hope of it growing a gui, i'll be sure to let you know

i am working with wxwidgets, a cross platform api wich is quite well, regarding the fact the have implemented wxaui wich enables you to easily implement comfortable modern user interfaces .... how would you map 2 function to map a 3d vector ? regarding x/y/z values, it could be possible to choose apply 2d transform to x/y - x/z or y/z ...

that sounds like it would suit your methods well, mutatorkammer is basically a function evaluator right?
thanks for the tip about wxwindows; i am studying qt this year, so maybe that will be useful (!)

yes, mutatorkammer is a function evaluator vor complex numbers ... and vectors of complex numbers ... i am currently thinking about evaluating it on the gpu, it extends the real number space to complex numbers, most of the transformations used for flames are already built in e.g. spiral/wave/curl ... but it evaluates to slow, becos i do not compile the formula i rather evaluate them on the fly, i am looking forward to running it on the gpu ... concerning qt, i do not really like it because of their license model, and wxwidgets is totally free, robust and packed with everything you need, xml/tcpip/userinterfaces ...

i have started looking into wxwindows, and it looks excellent! really simple and clear, free and with lots of very useful features, cross-platform... fantastic

yes, be sure to take a look at wxaui very easy to use stylish gui ... it is just 2 lines of code to make any window snappable to others I

this is for sure true, but the 3d hack is an exciting feature of the apophysis team ...

i suspect the apo "team" (basically *Zueuk and little help from the fabers and others) are slowly losing momentum - do you think there will be more development on that already old 3d hack? my interest in fractals is dwindling too, but i still intend to make at least one decent ifs renderer

i want to stay informed when you do something with the strange proggy called mutatorkammer, have you tried it?

I tried, but it generated errors when I attempted to load Apo parameter. It did that twice and then I had to run. I haven't launched it since.

only apo parameter files up to version 2.0 are allowed, but do not try it, the apo loader is mainly for the color palettes, and the rendering of apo parameter files is not really competitive ... ;(

Hello
Thanks for heads up with SuperShape
Right now I'm working on it, trying to make it a regular variation, not just a static shape. I'm leaving for a few days, but when I get back, it should be finished
