No no, thanks for adding ME to YOUR friends list

Truly though, you've got great work. I was looking through some of your architectural shots of Toronto, they're great! You present a very interesting view of skyscrapers (both in the photos and in your writings).

So you're living in Canada, eh? (heh) Me too! I'm currently in Peterborough (grew up here), and will be back in Waterloo again this fall.

Glad to meet you!

No problem! How's Peterborough? Toronto is amazing, specially its architecture.

unrandom In reply to amelo14 [2005-08-20 23:50:43 +0000 UTC]

Peterborough's ok. It was a nice place to grow up but I doubt I'm gonna hang around

It does have some interesting architecture, though -- Trent University, for example. Other than that there's the standard older downtown architecture...

(BTW, sorry for the late reply -- I've been bogged down in work until just yesterday. Ah, freedom)

Hey, someone else into art and computers that uses Linux here in the Peterpatch... cool.

I've seen Meet The Feebles, could an X-rated version of Lord of the Rings be on the horizon? That could get scary!

Nice work, BTW, gives me the kick in the butt to get more of my b&w pencil/ink stuff up...

Enjoying this heat? Ugh!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unrandom In reply to webmadman [2005-06-27 02:12:13 +0000 UTC]

Hey, neat.... a funny place, this Peterborough. The heat has been brutal, I had a soccer game earlier today (gah).

Have you seen Bad Taste as well? I find it hard to imagine what Peter Jackson might do now that he has money...

Speaking of b&w, your stuff reminded me that there are more colours out there -- maybe I should dig up some stuff I've done in colour.

Anyway, nice to "meet" you!

webmadman In reply to unrandom [2005-06-27 03:00:40 +0000 UTC]

Did you catch David Blackmore's show at the PAU? His subject matter is a bit limitted for my taste, but he pulls off some interesting things with colour. His show closed a couple days ago, but there's a lot of his work around town (at The Spill etc.)

There's an interesting show at Artspace right now, Cartoon Logic. I'm the co-chair for Artspace, so I guess I'm supposed to try and push it, but it is really quite interesting, an exploration of the consumerization of art and all that...
here's the write-up/examples: [link]

I'm living down here for a spell to "plugin" before I move back up to the backwoods of the Ontario North...

And I'm feeling kind of chatty tonight

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unrandom In reply to webmadman [2005-06-27 05:18:01 +0000 UTC]

Cool stuff. What's David's work like? I may have seen some of it in the Spill or elsewhere.

Heh, I'm not permanent here either, anymore -- I'm just off from university, not sure if I will be coming back next summer...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

webmadman In reply to unrandom [2005-07-14 10:29:58 +0000 UTC]

He does mainly face and body studies, some anatomical/esoteric themes, rough textured edges pulling into a hyper realism using high contrast deep shadows. I really like what he does with colours, some variety there. I get the sense though, that they are more like prep for something. it's like the dance along the edge, but not quite breaking through yet... but that's just my take

PS. Sorry bout the delay in reply, this heat is just making things so hard to keep up with...

unrandom In reply to webmadman [2005-08-20 23:52:35 +0000 UTC]

By your description, I'm fairly certain I've seen some of his work in the Spill. Intersting stuff.

Heh, I haven't exactly responded in a timely manner either

Heh, that's great Strange world indeed.....

Thanks, too -- you've got some nice abstract stuff yourself. To be honest, I'm often wary of abstract vector art; a lot of it tends to look the same. But you've got a unique style and a great sense of colour! Cool stuff.

So what you up to in Peterborogh? I mean...why Peterborogh?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unrandom In reply to Daiyanissa [2005-06-21 19:20:27 +0000 UTC]

Why Peterborough? Well, I've lived here since I was two. Right now, I'm just on break from University (Computer Science major + Fine Arts minor at Waterloo, if that makes sense). Probably won't come back here next summer, but who knows.

What am I doing here? Nothing much... hanging around with friends, watching ridiculous movies (example: ever seen anything by Peter Jackson before he made Lord of the Rings? Heh heh heh....), doing some art on the side...

Peterborough's not a terrible place... I mean, Lindsay? come on :-P

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daiyanissa In reply to unrandom [2005-06-21 23:24:12 +0000 UTC]

lol. Well, i'd rather live in Peterborough than in Lindsay. At least there are some decent clubs there. I am a student at Fleming here in Lindsay, and i'm on summer break as well.

It sounds like you have fun, and that's cool, it really reflects in your work. I live in my books.... not much fun there. In fact... that's where most of my inspiration comes from.

It actually does make sense that you have Fine arts on the side of Com Sci, It shows that you are a very well rounded person. I respect that . Are you well versed in the historic aspect of the fine arts?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

unrandom In reply to Daiyanissa [2005-06-22 03:17:39 +0000 UTC]

Hey now, books are good too

Art history eh? I'd say I'm decently versed in it... there was a history portion in my high school art classes and I have taken a modern art history course at uni (I will also have to take another course on art history before "modern" times). I wouldn't call myself "well-versed" though.

Is art history a particular interest of yours?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daiyanissa In reply to unrandom [2005-06-22 15:23:35 +0000 UTC]

somewhat. I just wondered if you were required to take it with fine arts. It should be a requirement. We can learn so much from the past...it is quite inspirational.

Er, ya. Still here, just.... busy with non-art stuff. I sit, occasionally, looking at this big piece of masonite in my room thinking what I'd like to do with it. But no real time at the moment, I've got a few real-world projects with real-world deadlines right now . Boo.

masonite? hmm.. never worked with it. fun?

ah... my grandmother loves me.. she bought me an industrial sized roll of really nice canvas and tons of stretchers for christmas.
want some? i have only God knows how many feet of the stuff.. the roll itself is taller than i am. not saying much.. but still!

hey sim...

enh, you win some..... you lose some.
I've considered it a few times, but never really put forth the effort. Mainly 'cause I've got an art section on my own site, so I didn't see the point. Then I saw that they have a print-ordering thing.... so I figured maybe I'd get an account, and maybe I'd pay the fee and make some prints sometime. Haven't gotten around to that second part...
