# About me

Born in Mozambique year 1978, I moved to Portugal with my parents and siblings at age 4. Moved to a small town close to Lisbon where I started school and began developing my interest in comics. Being an asthmatic I went to a doctor appointment with my mom. I walked by a news stand and I saw this amazing book, with a cover full of colors and action. A Thor cover by Jack Kirby. It was love at first sight. My mom bought me the book and as they say the rest is history. My mother always encouraged my love for drawing. She would do light drawings out of books and magazines that I would trace over after her. A few years later I would also have lot of "how to draw" books that she would buy for me. Enabling me to develop a sense of perspective, anatomy, composition at a young age. That would make me the kid always chosen to do illustrations for the school´s newspaper. When the time to choose, at high school, what course to take arrived, art was the obvious choice. But the school had poor conditions for art teaching so I moved to design where thanks to some special funding the conditions were excellent. That was my first real contact with Photoshop, Pagemaker, Corel Draw, etc. At this time I earned my first paid job. Drawing characters based on street signs for a driving school for children and also a small comic for that same school. Kids would learn to respect street signs and drive small karts on this track make to look like a real street. I hated the job but it was my first hard earned money. I also won a contest between schools of the council for creating a poster for a important Fair/Carnival of the region. After graduating high school I moved to college. I enrolled at IADE, a famous school of design, marketing and art. This was my first contact with drawing live human figures. The subject was right there in front of you, priceless. But other than the friends I still keep from those days and those drawing classes I hated the course. Mostly it was a repetition of the excellent education I had received at high school making it very boring.I dropped out on the second year and took some time out to think what I really wanted to do. feeling the pressure from my parents I took a course on 3D Animation ( Maya) and After Effects. I did love the course and learned a lot but was never able to find a job in that area. Needing a job I started working in something completely different, an auto-center, you know doing car alignments, oil changes and all that kind of crap. Since then I've kind of sleep walking through my life. Nothing much happening except the birth of my two children. This year I decided enough is enough. Trying to take control of my live and direct it to where I want it to go. Presenting art more often and trying to get noticed in this world full of amazing talent. But I think this is what I must do, what I love to do. Fulfill my destiny of becoming what I was in fact groomed to be, a comic book artist.
