It is basically saying that the things that philosophers contemplate help prepare them for the thought of dying and make them okay with it. When Socrates was killed he drank poison and willingly took the death penalty instead of fleeing out of Athens. So those were just his thoughts on how those who contemplate hard topics will not be afraid of death. But then again those are just my thoughts on it. I am a Sophomore Philosophy major so what do I know aside from I think, therefore I am. This could all be the the Matrix for all we know and there is no way to prove or disprove it. Take it for what it means to you. I just thought it was a totally awesome thing that he said right before he died because he did not care at all and was not afraid.
