By the time you catch up with the internet, years will be measured in Q!!!) ...But this makes me laugh, so I'm leaving it for you for whatever decade you decide to sign on and see anything.

Strange as it may sound, I try to watch anyone who watches me. Or who shows interest in my work.

I went through your gallery, too. You've got some great ideas. If I may say, with a little polish your writing would be very impressive.

Any pointers?

wizemanbob In reply to shano1321 [2009-09-19 17:03:40 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, the little things are most important. You know the saying "measure twice, cut once"? It applies in writing as well as any other discipline. Also, "the devil's in the details" fits.

Go back over your writing and check spelling and grammar. They aren't important when writing a draft, but afterwards, they become important. It looks more professional, and is easier to read.

After that, word choice comes in. Using the simpler words is usually your best bet. Flowery speech can confuse as often as inspire. But there comes a time when a simple "big" or "large" won't describe the person properly. Then we use something like "giant" or--one of my personal favorites--"brobdingnagian". All four words mean about the same thing, but if everything's giant, people will lose you.

That's my general spiel. You, personally, look to have a good grasp on spelling which, unfortunately, is the biggest problem with many people on this site. Your profile says you're in Denmark, too, so English may not be your first language. If so; congratulations, you spell better than most native speakers on the site.

Where you seem to be lacking is sentence structure, primarily punctuation. Sometimes you have a comma where a period would better serve, sometimes you don't have a comma where it would be beneficial. Capitalize the beginning of a quotation unless it continues a sentence that didn't stop when the quote was last closed. As I said at first, it's little things like that that, when correct, really help make your work shine.

I'll close by saying again that I really do like your ideas, and your stories are quite well-structured. with a little polish, they'll shine like the gems they are.

Hey.
I've started to read your stories and I have a question; what should I be reading first, WorldWanderer or WorldWanderer Lite? Are they the same thing?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

wizemanbob In reply to Visulth [2009-07-14 22:28:33 +0000 UTC]

The Lite is just the chapters cut into smaller pieces. So yeah, they're pretty much the same.

There should be no textual differences between the sections in Lite and their corresponding sections in the main chapters. The only thing that you'll find in the chapters that you won't find in the Lite is the introduction, World's End .

I hope you enjoy it.

Terrifying occasionally. But still classic.

I'm flattered you think so. In reciprocation, I plan to return the attention.

I try to look at just about everything a person does before I watch them "officially", so the watch'll likely come in a few days, but it'll be there.

I've already started, and your stuff seems cool from what little I've looked at.

I hope you enjoy my work.

JinShiranai In reply to wizemanbob [2009-06-05 22:39:13 +0000 UTC]

I'll try to get to your stuff as soon as possible, but I can't set a definite time. I've recently discovered that the reason I haven't been writing of late is because I've been neglecting reading. Any great writer is an even greater reader. So... I've been trying to catch up on that with the stack of classics I stole from my friend.

Also, thanks for the on "Life of the Party".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JinShiranai In reply to wizemanbob [2009-06-06 14:23:31 +0000 UTC]

Little bit of both. Got Kafka, Chaucer, Orwell, and Virgil lined up, with more to go.

And I'll be damned if I never find that collection of Byron that seems to elude me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

wizemanbob In reply to JinShiranai [2009-06-06 16:07:36 +0000 UTC]

Barnes and Noble released this classics collection and sold each volume at(practically) half off. I haven't gotten to all of them yet, but it's authors like Twain, O'Henry, Tolstoy, Wilde, and Dickens. Fifteen volumes from fifteen authors. It's not like I had a choice in the matter, so I own them all.

Another ridiculously awesome kind of book to read is specialty dictionaries. Really, dictionaries/thesauri are always fun to read, but it's less frowned upon to read Brave New Words than it is to read The Oxford English Dictionary, Second Edition. Some sort of stigma follows people who read that kind of book. The jokes are just too hard for most people to understand, or something.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JinShiranai In reply to wizemanbob [2009-06-06 17:24:42 +0000 UTC]

I'm going to have to pay BnN a visit then, soon as I get my first paycheck from the job I'm starting Monday.

And oh god dictionaries. My college has a subscription to the online OED that extends to the students, naturally. I'll look up one word and end up lost in etymologies and word origins and ambiguations for hours. It's like a wild goose chase, but every goose caught leaves you right on the trail of another. The OED is a dangerous thing where deadlines are concerned...

Yeah, just flipping through one looking for just the right word or just the right name. Hours and hours of glorious fun.
