Congrats on the engagement. I'm one of Jake's geeky Pokemon friends, but I'm curious about you since I see from his picture that you're a photog. What equipment do you use? I'm a Nikon guy, TBH.

Hi, nice to meet you! I'm all Nikon when it comes to digital (except for a dinky little Canon I have simply for pocket-convenience), and Minoltas when it comes to film. My favorite to shoot with is the 1971 Minolta SR7-II and black and white film. I use a Nikon D90 at work (Walt Disney World) with an external flash. For shooting commercially outside of work, I have a Nikon D40X, though to be honest, it's definitely past time to upgrade.

I used to have a crappy Nikon point and shoot, but it's worthless... I sold it I think. My first DSLR was a Nikon D70, a hand-me-down (my dad has a D300), and I have a 50, an 18-70, and a 70-300 for it. I'd like something midrange, like your 55-200, but I'd really REALLY love a shorter lens, maybe a specialized fish eye or a shorter landscape lens. None of my lenses are even close to pro. I did recently upgrade to a Nikon D90, and used it to take 3000 pictures of loud cars going around a track. Which was awesome. But dream camera...? I'm not a photog student like yourself. I'm a generalist, so I'm not good enough to have a "dream camera". This D90 is sufficient for my current needs. At a certain point, you're not good enough to NEED a better camera, and for me, this is that point. I suppose having 50+ focus points would be awesome, but I've got 6 for now, and I think that's plenty.

I love the D90. I wish I had one, lol. I look for second-hand vintage cameras in goodwill-type stores and garage sales. That's where I get most of my older cameras. The D90 belongs to Disney, so I don't get to keep it. I want a landscape lens, too! And, you know, the only thing you can do to make yourself better at photography is practice and patience. You never know; you might be better than you think.
