Could please explain me what's the SO BIG MATTER with that shot ? It is because there is a "symbol" of native Indian culture ? It is because it's fashion ?
I don't understand that people who're at thousand and thousand miles away can be offensed by this photograph. I'm french, I can't even imagine the problem.

I am a Native American. This is why this is offensive to me. It is offensive because she has a cigarette in her hand. That is offensive because today, many Native Americans live on reservations and have terrible addictions to cigarettes, drugs and alcohol and a whole other list of problems. So it's portraying natives in a light that is not positive. Not all Native people have addiction problems. Since you are French, I didn't expect you to know this, because a quarter of Americans don't even know this.
People didn't know that you are French and didn't know that it was offensive. They (myself included) just saw it and got upset. There has been a huge trend in the United States that has spread, that totally disgraces Native American culture, and basically groups all Native Americans into one category. Thank you for your message. It helps me to understand now, and you can imagine how was my feeling in front of all those bad reactions... I understand why it is offensive now. But you know, in France, we know how american gouvernment and people can destroy the world... In France, we try to know more about history of America, and I really know that Native Indians were persecuted and killed in many different ways, and we know that today the rest of them live on reservations, obliged to follow rules and customs that they don't have. We know that, because the history always shows this type of persecutions in all over the world.
I'm really sad about the information about your own tragedy, because it is. I understand why it's so hurting to you and many others. I consider that you can blame one thing: that fact that people are revisiting native indian culture without any conscience. And I blame myself for that too. But if you really think about it, you can see that you may find similarities between jews history and native indians, and armenian people history, and the different genocides of Africa...
It's really important to respect people in their own history, and your history is really sad.
I think that people who're hearing hipster headdress aren't really insulting the native indian culture: this is a beautiful object, and I'm sure that it is use because of it
