Fine and dandy and busy! I start school again soon, this time for Orthotics (making braces). So after that, hopefully it'll be a lot easier for me to get a residency. Same as before: online courses for 6 months, then 3 months in Chicago. Believe it or not, I'm actually excited to be learning stuff again.

As far as fandom is concerned, I've fallen into the time sink that is Star Wars: The Old Republic. Some idiot friends of mine were having fun without me and I couldn't have that XD. I occasionally write ficlets about it, and about my other characters and such, but not much beyond that.

Fine and dandy and busy covers me too. I've been living with my boyfriend for a few months now, and my next semester starts at the end of august. I've been working crazy trying to find a job (had two interviews the other day, keeping my fingers crossed). That all sounds great! I'm looking forward to more learning as well. How well do you do with online classes? I do okay, but if the subject is one I don't like I'm awful at it because its so hard to motivate myself to do it.

I'm well immersed in the Korra and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, in addition to FMA fandoms now myself. In terms of Korra I'm a hardcore Bolin/Korra shipper, one of my few non-canon couples. Been trying to get better at photoshop (see my latest picture for an example of how I'm doing) so that my fanart will look better.

I grind my teeth whenever I think about Korra because MAKORRA *breathes fire*. It is one of the few pairings that I actively HATE simply because it was so poorly done (usually I'm just indifferent). That and...Mako? Where's your character development, bro? So yeah, one instance where I'm not all over a canon couple.

Aaaaand, I didn't do so hot with online classes last time because I'm terrible at self-motivating myself and I tend to learn better when I'm seeing and doing rather than listening and watching. But I'm looking into ways to blocking certain webpages for a set time...basically to FORCE myself to work without distractions. Because it's not like I can just turn off the computer.

Yes, well, I'm trying to not focus on Makorra (which I also despise) due to my everlasting love of Borra. I'm working on a fanfic that is basically a re-write of the first season, but with Bolin and Korra getting together instead, and more character development all around.

Heh, yeah, I can relate to the motivation thing. I did so horribly in my science class online that I know I could never ever take a math class online. I'd fail completely.

Yessssss, because if there's one thing that was sorely lacking in that series, it was character development. Overall the show wasn't BAD, it just pales in comparison to its predecessor and we all expected better. Poor Bolin keeps getting shoved to the back burner and that just grinds my gears because he was one of my faves. Hopefully he'll get more screentime in the second season.

My actual factual favorites were Lin Bei Fong and the airbender family. I basically just loved Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo to pieces.

Exactly! I try to be a little positive about it, because after all they kinda had to stretch the show out when it was halfway done. If you'll notice, the first half of the show is a lot better paced and generally more in character than the latter half. And there were aspects of it I really liked. Amon was a truly badass villain. I liked Korra as a character overall. Asami was awesome, as was Lin and the airbending family. Tenzin and his kids were amazing.

But yeah, the fanfic is currently in the notes/planning stages and is currently called "Spirits Cry". I plan on making it slightly darker too (in terms of shown violence and probably some cursing, because they're teenagers after all) and won't have Korra immediately get her bending back at the end. Aang likens it to when he had to seek help from the guru, telling her that he has to help her "unblock" her bending.

They had really good ideas to start with. The introduced and set a lot of things up and then we got thrown into the love triangle mess and veered off in a completely different direction. So yeah, I'm anxious to see your take on it.

And YES I really really REALLY thought the second season would be about Korra learning some humility, learning that she's not completely worthless as a person without her favored elements, and learning to be patient. You know...the sort of development that you'd expect a brash, fight-first-ask-questions-later-girl to go through. I wanted her to EARN it. So yes fic plz thankyouuuu.

And I suppose this could be a nitpick but it bugged the hell out of me that when she finally did airbend...she was using it like firebending. Powerful punches and aggressive jabs and none of the circular evasive forms that she had learned.

Exactly! Yes! And while I'm looking forward to the second season because there will be more writers like in the original series, and because there is promised character development, I still feel sad for what could have been in Korra.

That's one of the things I desperately want to address in the fic! Because she clearly feels that way about herself. And how can she not? All her life she's been shown that her worth comes from her ability to fight, and from being the Avatar. Take that away and she feels like she isn't anyone. That's one of the reasons I like her with Bolin so much actually- because to him, she isn't the Avatar, she's Korra, and that makes a huge difference.

I didn't notice that, but you're right. Granted we didn't see that much airbending, but you're still right. Huh. That bothers me too.

*siiiiiiiigh* Yes, I'm finding it very difficult to find a residency that will take me for only having one discipline so I'm going back for Orthotics in the fall.

Are you in a prosthetic residency right now? How you liking it?

I'll tell you, I was in the same boat after my prosthetics education. It seems that no business owner wants to take a prosthetic resident underwing unless they can make some diabetic inserts or fit LSOs. I am in the 4th month of my prosthetics residency; its starting to get pretty exciting. My boss just started trusting me with my own patients.

Where are you located? Have you tried getting a residency with the dreaded Hanger?

Hanger is rather loathe to take me unless I have Orthotics it seems. They won't even put me in the residency pool despite me constantly updating them and interviewing with them on more than one occasion. I'm actually volunteering at a Hanger clinic right now just so my skills don't become completely stale while I'm waiting on school to start.

Not too far yet. Zelda was taken by the whirlwind, I found Fi (who is awesome)and am working on getting ready to leave skyloft. Is it just me, or are most of the people there really...bizarre? In both looks and personality. When that Groose guy was complaining about how Link was hanging with Zelda, I said: "Look, he can't help it that he's the only good looking guy here." XD

The swordfighting is awesome, Link and Zelda's interactions are great (GOD DAMN WHY DIDN'T THEY KISS?!) and Fi is really funny so far. I like the graphics too. They're like a painting almost.

Well they made an extra effort to make all the NPCs look distinct. And Pipit's not too hard on the eyes. So's Karane; those two are so adorable (the upper classmen with the yellow tunics). You'll get to know the denizens of Skyloft a bit better as time goes on.

And just wait on Groose....just you wait. XD

Yeah I believe the intent was to make the backgrounds and especially stuff in the distance to look like a watercolor or an impressionist painting. I LOOOOOVE impressionist style so I'm just a sucker for the overall aesthetic.
