Hi zillah-nightshade!
I requested a skin from you some time ago, and I received your PM about it, and thanks, but I don't need that skin anymore, sorry. BUT, I wanted to see if I could request another skin... I just wanted to know if you would be so willing as to make an anime-themed skin for me? I know you're used to creating real-life forum skins, so it's no problem if you can't do this for me; like I said, I was just wondering. The thing is, I need it as soon as possible for the forum that I just opened. Anywho, I'm just gonna post the form for requesting this skin anyway in case you decide to take up the challenge!
Basic color scheme - black, grey, any dark colors (I REALLY LOVE this skin, and I want something pretty much just like it: [link] I love all of the colors and just the look goes so well with my site! So if you could whip something up that's really close to it, it would be much appreciated!)
Site theme/plot- A non-canon, yaoi Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) RPG. Demons are roaming the world and harvesting young boys' souls and corrupting them in the process. Angels have been sent to put an end to the Demons, and the Grim Reapers are also out to get the Demons since they are unable to gather the synematic records of the people who's souls have been contracted with a Demon.
Site name- In Our Darkest Hour
Site URL- [link]
Skin class - dark
Generic theme - a dark, sort of depressing (the skin I have now is a bit too light for my taste xP), and moderately Victorian/Vintage (since the roleplay is set in the Victorian Era)
People or pictures - preferably pictures of any anime that seems like it would match with the skin and the time period or plot. Zerochan.net is the best source for these kinds of pictures
Any images you would like me to use? - Like I said, just any pictures (must be anime) that fit with the skin, plot, and/or Victorian Era time period. Please don't use any pictures of the main characters from Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)- the anime my site is based off of- because it is a non-canon site, and I don't want to confuse people xD
Any additional codes you would like me to add/special requests?- I love everything that is portrayed on the site I gave you, so any/all of those codes are welcomed and appreciated! I also like the action where you hover over a staff member's name and their picture comes up, and it is different for each staff member; I don't think the site I listed has that O.o but it would be a nice touch I think xD
Any codes you do not want used?- nope, I like most everything
Any things you like/do not like when it comes to skins?- I like when there is an image/part of an image behind the text & cbox on the sidebars- the site I posted has the perfect example in their side tables.
Thanks so much for your time! And please feel free to PM me when you get this telling me whether you are up for it or not!

To everyone who's tried to PM me lately:
I'm EXTREMELY sorry but my PM system isn't working. I can't even read the PMs that have been sent to me. I don't know why this is. I just want to make sure that I'm not offending anyone by neglecting my PMs; there's nothing I can do.

You're welcome. ^^ I love Serenity! And your pics are great.
I checked out your novel website; I've written a novel as well. I'm currently in the query phase... I've sent out several and received four partial requests (one via query reply, three via a conference I attended) and one for the full manuscript. I'm actually sending those out at the moment. How's your novel going?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
aspiring-x In reply to zillah-nightshade [2010-07-06 02:41:09 +0000 UTC]
wow! four partial requests is so good! what's your genre? i'm guessing fantasy... is it YA? have you heard of the upcoming WriteOnCon? who are your partials (and full) out with? (if that's not too nosy?) i love meeting other aspiring writers! have you joined the blogging community? i find it really unnerving, but it helps to make connections.
i sent out three queries forever ago (and made that little website). i thought my book was to the point where i was ready, but as i've learned more (which wasn't hard to do, i knew nothing!) i came to the understanding that i need some rewrites before i'll be ready to query again. so, that's where i am now. learning, rewriting, trying to do the blog thing, and hoping to come out of it with a better book!
tell me about your book! please!?!?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
zillah-nightshade In reply to aspiring-x [2010-07-06 03:05:29 +0000 UTC]
Hah! Sure, lol...
Well, my genre is YA urban fantasy/paranormal romance. I haven't heard of WriteOnCon! What is it? I haven't sent out my partials and full yet, so I don't really feel comfortable telling you who they're for (if that's alright... I'll let you know once they're sent out). I do find the blogging community kind of unnerving; I used to blog some but I really don't anymore.
Yeah, I hate the rewriting phase... it's fine though, I had the same situation. I thought my book was ready, then I got requests for partials and such and I was like... oh dangeetz. I haz to rewrite. And so, now, I’m in that phase, though I hope to get some of my partials out tomorrow and the next day…
I swear that the conference I went to was like the best thing that ever happened to me... honestly, half the agents that requested my stuff, including the agent who requested the full, I wouldn't even have queried in the first place! I didn't know how much value there was in meeting someone in person... O_o I mean, if I'd sent my query to some of those agents, they probably wouldn't even have read it; they'd have dismissed it as spam... it's kind of funny, really!
I'm getting ready to go to bed, so I'll fill you in about the story of my book later... what about your book?! Tell mehhh!

i just heard about writeoncon link: [link] it's a free online writing conference for kidlit (including YA) on aug 11 and 12 (i believe). i don't know all that much about it, but i thought i'd give it a try (it's free after all ) totally cool about not telling me who requested materials! i completely understand. my crit partner writes YA Fantasy too and has three partials (wait no two now) and a full out, and so i thought it would be funny if it were the same people!
did you get any of them out?
i've never been to a conference. that's part of why i'm planning on checking out the writeoncon thing. i'm glad it worked out so well for you! i'm not very good at verbal communication, so the conference thing scares me (i stutter sometimes. it's annoying)but i'm starting to think that it might become a necessary evil someday. (if i could just get the darn writing up to par!)
can't wait to hear about your book! (esp. if your art is an indicator to style!)
here's sort of what my book is about... (i'm feeling lazy so i just cut and pasted from my blog! sorry! i had a LONG day at work today! so many dishes to wash so little time!) anyway...
The genre is YA paranormal, but as I work on my rewrites, I wonder if I'm going to boot it into YA Horror, not sure. A lot of the content I want to add would probably do that.
The story is about sixteen-year-old Haley Martin who moves to the tiny town of Linney, KS. Haley and her sister find journals hidden in their new house that were written in the late 1800's by a woman referred to as The Linney Witch. Shortly after, Haley discovers a homeless boy named Beau sleeping in her shed.
Beau tells her of a secret society founded by the Linney Witch. Beau witnessed the ritualistic murder of his sister and father by the society, and his mother The Mayor is their leader, and now they're after him!
Beau introduces Haley to the scraggly remnant that has fought them for generations, and together they search for evidence to build a criminal case against the society. In their search for evidence ghost stories and folktales become truth, cloaked sociopaths stalk them by night, and two ghosts strive to guide Haley on her quest.
and this is why i SUCK at query writing! lol.
ok, your turn!

Haven't gotten any of them out yet... >.< The conference I went to was actually really helpful though, and I plan to go next year for sure... also, have you heard of NaNoWriMo?
Okay, well, my book is Ya paranormal romance/urban fantasy and it tells the story of Daciana Thorvald, a werewolf with a conscience who's constantly trying to atone for all the regrets of her past. One day, an old friend comes knocking on the door saying that her husband's disappeared, and Daciana agrees to help her - and does - but at a terrible price. A chain of events ensues that seem random to Daciana at the time, but are actually all linked and connected to a single event in her past that she'd all but forgotten. It's like the vampires and werewolves of Twilight meet the inner turmoil and forbidden love of Blood and Chocolate.
(That was basically the pitch I gave at the conference, lol)
I strongly dislike revisions... I've spent like, the entire past week revising my chapter one. >.< Evil.

i've just heard a bit about it. doesn't it force you to write a whole bunch superfast?
sounds interesting! i love werewolves (vampires not so much- but that's because blood gives me the heebie jeebies!) never heard of blood and chocolate.
sounds like a good pitch! i thought it was a no-no to compare ot other books though. must of been wrong, because it seems to be working for you!
how long until you need to send out the partials? yeah, my revisions are going so slow. i rewrite, then decide that i liked the other version better, then hybrid it, then... well indecision- that's my problem. evil is right!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
zillah-nightshade In reply to aspiring-x [2010-07-08 20:59:35 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, NaNoWriMo is a competition to write 50,000 words in a month. It was like, amazing.
Thanks for the interest! Blood and Chocolate is a werewolf book/movie. And see, it's a no-no to say "OH my book is JUST LIKE Twilight and you're going to love it and it's amazing!" However, what it is good to do - I went to a few workshops on this at the conference, led by agents - is to show that your book is "high concept" by comparing it to two other successful works that.
A few good examples the agents gave - "Jane Austen meets zombies." "Gone With the Wind meets Terminator." That type of thing... successful works or concepts together... yeah.
I need to send out the partials pretty soon, but I'm making revisions and I can't really decide which way I like it. >.< I do basically the same thing. It's an evil, EVIL process.

hmmm... i think i could do that... the problem would end up being the quality of those words!
so funny, i just read in an agent profile that she actually WANTS the queriers to tell her what books their work is similar too. jiminey christmas! i'm out of luck! it feels kinda presumptious to claim my work is similar to anything published, you know. but i understand their desire to see some semblance of high concept. it is their job to sell it after all.
man, i really am going to need to work on that...
rewrites! grr! but i got two chapts done today! now, i'm going to go read! i just started The Mortal Instruments series, and i got book 2 today! read through the first one in like three days and i'm a dreadfully slow reader! have you ever read them?

zillah-nightshade In reply to aspiring-x [2010-07-09 23:00:29 +0000 UTC]
Yeah... I actually found when doing NaNoWriMo that my writing was much better for doing it in such a condensed way!
Comparing your novel to other works can be kind of hard, since we spend so much time trying to make them unique... >.<
Yeah, I'm STILL editing my partial. I haven't read The Mortal Instruments series, but I've always wanted to/intended to... I'll have to get around to it. Are they good?
