Description
Name:
Marsuvees "Mars" de Fiore.
Title:
The Blind Fox/Sage of the Wooden Sword.
Gender:
Male.
Species:
Human.
Age:
30.
Occupation:
Pirate.
Crew:
The Godtree Pirates.
Rank:
Captain.
Appearance:
Mars is younger than most "sages," with strong youthful features and not a single wrinkle. His hair is bone white and shaggy with one long braid down his back. At the end of the braid are three bright blue feathers, two silver bells and a single silver coin with a lighthouse embedded into the face. The bangs are swept to the left and the right side of his head is cut much shorter; he has swirling patterns shaved into the short hair. Mars pretends to be blind, wearing a dull gray scrap of cloth wrapped around his eyes. His build would be described as powerful, but lithe; he has the physique of a professional swimmer or sprinter, muscles rippling under pale skin. He is actually entirely incapable of growing facial hair, which is okay by him considering he wouldn't be able to see it anyway. He has a wicked grin with very pronounced canines, becoming somewhat of a defining feature of his.
Personality:
"It is a stupid goose who listens to the fox preach." - Old French Proverb.
Mars de Fiore is a kindly, humble and peaceful blind man entirely without sin... when he's on land. At sea, Mars is a devilish, heavy-drinking and lecherous pirate captain, known for his rough language and deft skill with a soul. It is true that he refuses to take a life, but he is by far not above crippling you for life. Somehow, it's more embarrassing when to be beaten when you're beaten by a "blind holy" man with a wooden sword.
Weapon:
Botokitsune - Botokitsune is an interesting sword, to say the least, considering it's technically not a sword at all. It's made entirely from Adam's wood - the strongest and most valuable type of wood in the world, capable of taking cannonballs and bullets without a scratch. Mars actually scavenged the wood for this sword from an ancient shipwreck and lovingly fashioned it into a weapon himself. The handle of the sword has a simple blue cloth wrapped around the handle and a variety of different knick knacks hanging from the hilt including some of the same blue feathers as the ones in his hair, a small cartoon fox head and a pair of dice.
Strengths:
Haki - Mars has mastered haki. He was raised in a temple dedicated to studying the forces of Haki, showing amazing natural talent for both busoshoku and kenbunshoku haki. He utilizes this talent to both strengthen his blows with Botokitsune and keep track of his opponents while blindfolded.
Speed - Mars is wicked fast, being not only fleet of foot, but as well as swift with his hands. By wielding a considerably lighter weapon than most, Mars is able to land blows in rapid succession.
Deception - Though the name Marsuvees de Fiore is synonymous with graceful swordplay, his most powerful weapon would be the devious machinations of his crooked mind. Mars is known for feints, false tells, manipulating the battle field and whatever eccentric tactics he can use to gain the upper hand. That is, of course, if he doesn't talk his way out of the fight first. Who would attack a blind man?
Weaknesses:
Strength - Most pirates are physically stronger than Mars, able to easily grapple him or otherwise overpower his slender frame.
Unpredictable Attacks - Mars relies on his haki to predict opponents attacks, making him effectively blind to attacks that are unpredictable - shots in the dark, if you will.
History:
Mars was orphaned at a young age and taken in by a temple dedicated to studying Haki. It was here that he spent most of his life, learning the ways of non-violence, humility and, of course, haki. The monks believed that, while self-defense was justified, the existence of haki proved that all life was interconnected and nothing could justify taking another's life. Whereas obviously Mars didn't take all of the monk's teachings to heart, he definitely accepted this teaching. One of the monks, Brother Corsair, was a famous former pirate known for his abilities with a sword; he taught young Mars to handle a blade in order to defend himself. When Mars was old enough to leave the monastery, he was reluctant and presented with a difficult choice... he was unsure of whether he wanted to leave his loved ones and the only home he ever knew in order to brave the high seas as a pirate immediately, as Brother Corsair had before him, or if he wanted go to the local brothel, get blind drunk and celebrate the lifting of his vow of celibacy first. Clearly, he chose the latter option. When Mars was drinking, he was blinded when he sneezed in a room full of chili powder (don't ask), causing him to wrap a bandage around his eyes. The next morning, he saved one of the prostitutes from a particularly aggressive customer (he wasn't aware that she actually didn't need saving, but was just afraid of hurting the man until much later) and she was so impressed that he was able to fight so well despite being "blind" that she agreed to join his crew. Then, together, they stole the unconscious customer's modest boat, sailed away with a skeleton crew and started their own pirate crew - The Godtree Pirates. The rest? Well, the rest is history.
Extra:
The Drowning Orchard - The ship of the Godtree Pirates, a moderately-sized ship with a giant constantly blooming Sakura tree growing out of the stern, the roots trailing into the sea. This is no ordinary tree, being able to collect almost all of it's nutrients from salt water. Still, Mars's cabin has a layer of soil along the floor as well as a other plant life. Grass instead of wood, flowers, ivy climbing the walls - all fed by glowing globes that simulate sunlight.
Jolly Roger - The jolly roger of the Godtree Pirates consist of a blindfolded skull and crossed wooden swords in front of a blooming sakura tree, with petals drifting into the air.
