Description
This is my last render for 2009. Just like many of you, I really loved the movie Avatar, so I wanted to close this year with a render you would like
After passing 312 billion polygons, an epic VGA driver crash and more than 3 hours of rendering, Pandora was born once again
The rock materials are from =nukeation 's upcoming material pack Mineral Infinity, which will be available soon at his store at Cornucopia3D [link]
Rendered in Vue 8 Infinite, minor postwork in PS CS4

I heard that the floating mountains of Pandora were screened at some place in China. After the movie came out, those mountains were referred to by the Chinese as the "Avatar Mountains".

Vue 8, and just 3 hours rendering?
I think that with my ridiculous Core i5&nVidia 1,5Go I will take... some... 48 hrs of rendering for it
This scene is quite cool, I'm just against the rocks on the river, and the floating mountains looks... little ^^
You may test with Depth Blur and a darker atmosphere.

you missed the hanging vines though

oh yeah haha, i7's are good! although if you wait until christmas, i believe they'll have the new i7 which is a 6 core processor

uhm...I saw the movie once in IMAX, twice or 3 times in 3D cinema, and about 6-8 times on DVD

Haha - last night in all the drama that ensued after you went offline, I forgot to comment AT ALL about the image itself.
I love this! Very cool render. One of the things that stand out for me are the subtle Godrays. The mist-cloud effect is very prominent there. I think it looks this good because it is subtle and not the stark head-pounding strong godrays you sometimes see.
The shape of the floating islands is also very cool. I think the HT is perhaps one of the most detailed I've seen in a while.

i really like the way that you have done this.i'm not to sure if it's the absolutely stunning alien world of the na'vi but it's pretty close. It looks a little more like the Earths gravitational field went haywire. but a really nice render all the same

Great piece. Loved Avatar myself. Very good. I wish i could say some of my scenes took a bit more than 3hrs to render.'sob' soon. my minimum is like 2hrs, max like ...well. Good piece though.
