This is my last render for 2009. Just like many of you, I really loved the movie Avatar, so I wanted to close this year with a render you would like
After passing 312 billion polygons, an epic VGA driver crash and more than 3 hours of rendering, Pandora was born once again
The rock materials are from =nukeation 's upcoming material pack Mineral Infinity, which will be available soon at his store at Cornucopia3D [link]
Rendered in Vue 8 Infinite, minor postwork in PS CS4

Ruben, everything else aside, let me ask you this: you have always considered yourself a good person. You believe in honor and good things and the soul shining, right? Well, in that case why are you being so aggressive to us supposedly "stupid people"?
A lady (Drea/~angelicdevil ) gets a rude sounding comment from you. She doesn't like it. So WE - on an invitation - ask you to leave her alone. Okay, maybe we didn't do it in the best way, but if YOU are so enlightened, shouldn't YOU be the one giving a proper calm response instead of writing thousands of words of hatred? Where is the whole 'God listens' aspect, my friend? I thought YOU were supposed to be the better person.
And of course, the whole hatred angle you went on with Michel (=iMUDa1 ) was just wrong. Not to mention the rest of us.
I don't have to tell you that I have ALWAYS treated you as a friend, haven't I? For two years we have been playing this dance. But this time I didn't. Why? Ask yourself. Perhaps it WAS because this time you started crossing a line.
You may say whatever you want, but I will consider myself dead the day I don't stand up to defend a good friend like Drea and Michel.
How about this: how about you realize that this group of people don't want you. And then do the wise thing that I know you are capable of (supposedly): leaving us alone.
I look forward to seeing how you respond: sensibly, or with strong language, hatred, and the previously seen infantile ravings.

well...this is somewhat....AMAZING
i really like all the atmospherics
and to get those plants on the underside of the floating rocks...did you use two separate mesh's and splice them together? the material should hide most seams? then you would be able to add an extra ecosystem? although in my theory i haven't allowed for displacement and such..so perhaps i am wrong
oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great! when I find time among my othe rpersonal projects I should try something along the lines of Avatar too (well I have plenty of floating islands but they have a different "feel" about them and are intended to look kinda small 
How'd you get trees underneath the rocks? I bet the one son top are Ecosystems but for the bottom in order to populate it you might lose the ecosystem already on it...unless those are manually-placed (ugh, once you have half a dozen manually-placed trees in a Vue scene it slows to a halt

Splendid way to close out the year. I loved this scene in the movie, coming through the mist to see there were indeed, "Hallelujah Mountains."

I love the roots/shrubbery under the floating towers!
(you know - as well as the landscape, jungle, atmosphere, mood etc)
