Description Finally I had time to watch =nukeation 's great video tutorial [link] , which covers some good tricks about terrain function editing. I started to experiment with terrain functions, then I ended up making this snowy scene (because I very rarely make snowy scenes).
Though it's hard to see, this terrain is pretty large; actually it's 50 × 50 km large.......have you noticed the helicopter??

Rendered in Vue 7.4 Infinite
snow material by me

Thanks for viewing!

EDIT: you can find the wallpaper version here [link]

Very good work with the terrain, dear, and the snow - and the helicopter adds just the right touch.

hahaha awesome, Drea

can you add some snow dust and make a red arrow somewhere saying "Kurt is here"
omg omg i wanna snowboard there

00AngelicDevil00 In reply to revesburger [2009-05-26 15:56:43 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. But since the terrain is 50×50km and the camera is waaay up high, I doubt we would see the snow dust, not to mention that little black flyspeck (you)
btw, did this deviation appear in your devwatch or you just noticed it via the wallpaper??

ohh okay, I just have some doubts about the flawlessness of the message center lately. plus earlier I always got feedback from you right away, so I thought there was something wrong with the message center again. I guess you could view the other work too then...plus I thought if you had mood for drooling yesterday, I might get some feedback as usual

this is great! I enjoyed his tutorial too. Nice work. the planethingy helps put the scale in place- nice foreground too- I think i recognise the displacement filter on some parts

flightlevel-380 [2009-05-24 16:49:16 +0000 UTC]

Looks so real

But I would scale the helicopter a little larger You barely can see it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

00AngelicDevil00 In reply to flightlevel-380 [2009-05-24 19:05:22 +0000 UTC]

hahhaha guess what, I actually increased the size of that helicopter a bit . I used it as a reference object for scale; it has to be small to see how large the terrain is
Thanks!

Its a helicopter? sorry I mistook it for a fixed wing. Beautiful render here, I especially like the terrain blends you've done.
BTW Installed 7.4 but not had the time to play with it yet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

00AngelicDevil00 In reply to karanua [2009-05-24 19:10:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's a very small helicopter ...more exactly it's a normal sized helicopter; the terrain is large!
Thank you! Well, I hope you can work with it soon

Chromattix [2009-05-24 12:42:43 +0000 UTC]

Not bad! I guess to our luck, a snowy mountain scene would work much like a desert one in spite of their obvious differences...They both would have a terrain partly made of hard rock and partly covered in something finer collecting in the lower areas such as sand or snow

The foreground at the very bottom is great! normally all terrains look "faker" as you get too close, but the near bit is very realisic

Would ypou conside rthe video easy to follow? I've seen amazing results from everyone who's watched it, I hada lot of distractions after it was released, so I figured I'd just wait for thefinal version to come out
