Now this is something I haven't drawn before and in the same time SO my style!I'm depicting fire itself not as aggressive, destructive or purifying - qualities that are often inherent to the element. Instead I've put it in it's natural setting... mostly. xD It's someplace in a cave, far under the surface of the Earth, where it can create all the heat it can, melt rocks without anyone interfering with it and without destroying anything. And the demon in the center is just like the fire - hot and potentially dangerous, with flaming wings, but right now she's in her lava river, calm and undisturbed. And those skulls state that she prefers to remain alone! xD
I created this piece as an entry for the Fire contest set up by the Myths and fantasy group
I gather I can submit a second picture and I think I will, plenty of time before the deadline! Wish me luck, everyone, I'm always striving toward the first place!

It was kinda hard for me to find a tutorial that would really work, but I think this one did. I don't think I've ever managed to draw some realistic flames. At first I just thought of using stock images of fire for this pic, but then again... It's a fire contest!! And if I don't learn to draw flames NOW, then when?

This artwork and your thoughts about fire amaze me. The idea to design a fire demon is nice and original, especially the wings are cool.
The colours here are really, really good and realistic

Thanks!! ^^ I just wanted to state my own interpretation on the piece as well, just to show that I did have something in mind while drawing it! And, yep, I always like exploring tutorials and this was a good occassion to check out the ones for fire!

Mmm actually that's its mouth. xD Or the hole under the upper jaw. I'm bad at drawing skulls, but that's too much even for me. !XD

No I mean the other hole, above the eye, but whatever. Your skulls aren't that bad, they're actually pretty good. I couldn't have done it better.

Thanks!! I can imagine how hard it is to draw most things only with pencil like that. I see your traditional work is amazing, ever considered trying to colour it digitally? I mean, GIMP is free from what I've heard of.

Yep, I did and still do sometimes, even have photoshop. But I like it B/W, it lets the viewer image. 10 people can look at a piece, and there may be 10 totally different versions of how every person feels when they look at it or how they sense the atmosphere for example.
There were times I did my drawings completely digital. Heh, I tried it again a few days ago... and honestly, I can't realy do it anymore, at least not without a lot of practice. xD

With me only practice helped. I'm self taught, just experimenting with photoshop and I kinda got good. And in this way of thinking it means that everyone can become as good as me in Digital work, since I'm neither a rare talent, nor getting help.

Do you have a tablet? Because if you're going digital, it's gonna be easier. But doing the sketches on paper and then the colouring on a computer is still an option.

yep I do, as I said, I did draw and paint completely digitally before I returned to my roots and did traditional again 
..You know what I just realized? For traditional drawings I often sketch on pc.. and for digital drawing I often sketch on paper... oO

Haha, that's interesting, but I see why you'd do it. On a computer it's easier to position things and on paper drawing itself is easier. And, funfact, but the older half of my gallery is digitally drawn with a mouse. I lived a lot of time without knowing there's another way and it kept me going. Later on I understood that there's this miracle of technology called Tablet! XD
