[PERSONALITY]
Having spent much of her life acting, Alice is enraptured with and passionate about theater. Now that she has a chance to teach a class about the topic, she’s eager to share all she knows. That said, Alice is aware that she can get carried away when talking about acting, and so tries her best to rope it in when she teaches. Alice cares deeply for her students and wants to make sure they do well in her class, and so works with them and helps them any way she can to excel. However, that doesn’t mean she’ll bend over backwards for them; she expects them to work hard to succeed, but she doesn’t mind giving them a little nudge. Alice also wants her students to be happy and do well outside of her class, and may assist them with other issues if they need it. She’s often the one who has to approach them, anyway—she’s good at spotting people in distress.
Alice can sometimes let her theatrics bleed over into her daily life, having a tendency to be a little dramatic at times. She can also be a bit conceited, steeping a little too much of herself in her acting background. Despite the refined persona Alice wants to give off, however, she is well aware that she isn’t very close to that image. She is very disorganized and forgetful, often misplacing lesson plans or even forgetting what she’s supposed to be teaching. A terrible flirt, Alice gets flustered just being around attractive women.
Jovial and fun-loving, Alice enjoys bantering with colleagues or students, and can’t resist teasing her coworkers. She isn’t one to get too competitive, but doesn’t mind a friendly game or two. In battle, she rushes to the front lines, determined to protect those close to her and what she holds dear. Few foes make her falter, her spirit strong enough to keep her fighting until the fight is done.
Despite her playfulness with her companions and her love for her students, however, Alice tends to avoid getting very close to people. She is reluctant to share anything about her past, and even when she does will attempt to change the subject the first chance she gets. Few have seen inside her room, and even fewer have seen behind the mask, which she refuses to take off. And even though she exudes an aura of confidence in all she does, she shies away from mirrors or getting her picture taken, almost as if she doesn’t want to see who will stare back.
[BACKGROUND]
Alice has spent her entire life around theater. She grew up in Kalos, living with her father, a famous playwright, and her mother, a brilliant actress. Her parents loved her and made time for her when they could, but were often busy with their work. Nevertheless, when they discovered Alice reading from one of her father’s scripts when she was seven, they happily did all they could to fuel their daughter’s new interest. From then on, Alice would join her parents during her father’s writing sessions, often acting out the scenes with her mother. As she refined her skill at acting, she was even given the chance to act in minor roles in some of the plays her mother starred in!
Alice continued to act and continued to improve at acting as she got older, working her way up from minor roles to supporting characters, and finally to a starring role at eighteen as the main character in an adaptation of one of her mother’s most famous plays. Some say she managed to even outshine her mother in that performance. However, after becoming a star, Alice realized she had a desire to try her hand at the other side, wanting to write scripts instead of act them out. She spent two years working on her masterpiece, going through countless drafts and ideas before finding the perfect story. Unfortunately, while her script was turned into a play, it didn’t do very well, and faded from the scene shortly after its debut. While she is still proud of her work, she is still embarrassed by her failure and the lack of recognition it gets when brought up, and so tries to pretend it never happened. She returned to acting for a few years, but wondered if it was what she could do—and what she wanted to do—for the rest of her life. She had spent so many years playing so many roles on the stage, but now she wondered what her role in life should be. Her passion for the craft still burned brightly nonetheless, and so she decided that she would find a way to pass it on to the next generation. Working out a deal with the headmaster of Novis Academia, she managed to land the most important role of her life—the school’s newest theater teacher! Alice still isn’t sure what she plans to do after teaching at Novis—or if there even will be something after—but she knows that here and now, she wants to do all she can to pass on her knowledge and passion for theater to her new students and hopefully inspire them to follow their passion.
[TRIVIA]
Alice hails from the Kalos region, and thus speaks both French and English. While she only uses French when she needs to, she will occasionally slip some phrases into her normal speech out of habit or when she gets emotional. She is very passionate about acting, and loves seeing that same passion in other people. When she is overcome with joy at a student’s excellent performance, she will shower them in roses, her favorite flower, as a sign of praise and appreciation.
She enjoys having fun, often joking around with students or other teachers when the opportunity arises. Alice often spends her free time writing, both scripts and stories, but also enjoys taking long walks as a way to clear her head. Skilled at fencing, she can sometimes be found honing her skills as well. Alice isn’t a picky eater, and will usually eat whatever you give her, though she absolutely adores pastries. She doesn’t usually let people know about it, but she also has a weakness for anime, which she watches in private when she’s certain no one can catch her. She’s a little embarrassed about it, but still remains passionate about the culture surrounding it.
There’s nothing Alice hates more than someone unwilling to be open-minded. She dislikes when students refuse to give an effort in her class or call it “pointless” and dedicates herself to changing their minds. She also dislikes those who can’t appreciate art of any kind, but has dealt with them enough to know that nothing will change their way of thinking. Not much scares Alice, but she does believe in ghosts, and is susceptible to a good jumpscare. Alice does not like needles, and typically dreads going to any kind of doctor because of it.
Alice’s ability is Poison Point, which leaves her opponents feeling weakened after they make physical contact with her in battle. Interestingly, no one is quite sure why this happens, as Alice fights using a prop rapier. Then again, a prop rapier wouldn’t be doing as much damage as she has…
Alice’s room would be very minimalistic; all she would need is a bed, a desk, and a dresser, which is all she would have. Her desk would be overflowing with papers from scrapped story ideas, while her collection of anime would be hastily stuffed under her bed out of view. She wouldn’t have any pictures of her family, though she might decorate her walls with photos of plays or shows she was a part of as a way of remembering her career.
Ironically, Alice has a pollen allergy, but she usually manages to keep it under control. She is an only child; her father, Molière, is a Roselia, while her mother, Bernadette, is a Florges. She hasn’t seen them in a few years, but still loves them all the same. When she misses them, she tends to write scripts about them, reminiscing on her childhood.
Alice listens to a wide range of music, from soft rock to classical, but lately she’s started getting into J-Pop—even though she’d never let anyone know. As such, the song I would probably select as her theme is “The Labyrinth” by Yoshino Nanjo. The song is about trying to figure out who you are, which is the crisis Alice was struggling with that ultimately led to her coming to Novis.
Alice’s voice actor would probably be Tara Platt; I feel like she has the same kind of maturity in her voice that I imagine Alice does, but can also add charm, attitude, or cheek when needed. In terms of the actual voice range, as this actress does voice several very different characters, I feel Alice’s voice would sound similar to Platt’s roles as Miriel from Fire Emblem Awakening, Seri Awashima from K, and Valeera Sanguinar from Hearthstone.
