I wasn't quite feeling this way, but now I am a little proud of the blur effect. I think I will use it more in the future. I think the coffee/mint color combo can also be seen on your journal layout. Well, yours look much more minty.
I also enjoy seeing artists drawing other's characters. It's fun to observe how they differently interpret what is given to them.
thank you for noticing the "earwax" glow. haha. not many people mentioned it. thank you very much Yoruhikage

I like the way you color so smoothly but not to a point where it
looks too saturated or blended ....I'm also impressed with the blurring effect which makes the pic have depth, almost 3D like
an excellent technique! I think I need to steal it from you

I suggest you try. I rather fun. Only catch is that your eye start to hurt in the process for some reason. Not sure why.

That is a gorgeous effect you have going there! I love it to no ends!
Heh, you added glow to the inside of her ears? Neato, to be honest. I don't think phil would mind at all.
While I wouldn't say that the blur adds too much depth (The wrinkle on her shirt is the crux of that... not blurred enough to add depth to the rest), the blur adds a sort of tease to the eye. It's wholly new in a sense. I've never seen anything like it, at least. Instead of giving your eye a depth-only kind of focus, instead, it puts focus on things as if they were half moving, half covered, and a small fraction of depth. The combo makes it so that distracting details pan out, and one's eye instead goes to the glasses, left arm, wing, etc. That's got a really cool effect to it, and the way the right wing gets eaten by the background causes a slight sort of 'interaction' between the character and the backdrop... which also tends to make the whole illustration more real and balanced as opposed to starkly spat on a page.
In general, you seemed to have hand-blurred the image according to what your eye thinks is right, and that caused the whole image to just ooze with a sort of gentle glow and makes it all really easy to move around capture the whole image. As proof, I've only had to scroll up twice during this whole time to remember the image in my head... that's so cool to me! When you give someone's brain too many details, it always makes an image harder to remember, and so you need more shock or something else if you want a good 'ad' or a good sticking point or message.
Cool stuff! I hope I haven't thrown out too much here, but this sparked a lot of thoughts in my own head. I think this will change my view on blurs for a long long long time to come.
Thanks a lot for sharing your creativity.

ah. so you noticed the ear-glow. I think it's not quite obvious thing to notice. I been fancying this effect for a while now. I used it quite often for my neopet design [SHAME!]
wow. that's a huge analysis on the blur-effect. Most of your words are things I wasn't even thinking about when I was doing it. Amazingly I did hand-blurred the image. The general-blur doesn't work; it just flattens everything. heh. I also applied less blur on the face area so the attention doesn't deviate from the main focus of the character's feature. I think you already caught my intention. that's cool.
"As proof, I've only had to scroll up twice during this whole time to remember the image in my head... that's so cool to me!"
that sound absolutely cool to me also. Man, your comment sound very crazy. I like it when images seems to have connection with the perception with human cognition. Meaning, not just effects on observing the picture, but effect in the recognizing process. I appriciate that very much Dudymas.

Wow! Thank you so much!
I always really appreciate drawings of my characters. It really opens up some ideas of how to improve the design more from the the different takes artist might draw. Seeing her in an entirely new style too is also very interesting, I love it.
This is definitely something that puts me in dept, I don't care what you might say.
Indeed.
The colours are fine, they're well blended.
The 'Quiltish' aren't entirely true them selfs, because all the colours came from traditional paint swatches I made. Am I'm not entirely good at traditional colour mixing.
I like when the colours vary like this though. If it wasn't for colour experimentation Heiby would probably still have that awful shade of brown she had since her very first drawing. Which I unfortunately still have.
Speaking of the first design, I remember IM'ing a friend asking him about this 'bat character' I was currently working on. I ask him if I should make the wings come down off the arms, or have arms and wings separate. He said separate, and that's why she's a hexapedial freak.
The pose, yeah. Stretching is clear, as for her shoulders not seeming tense, it's a relaxed stretch. I dunno, it works. ;D
Anyways, to get back to praising. This is ridiculously cute, and I love what you've done.

today is almost a week after you made this comment and now I am finally responding with "you are welcome"
It's great to hear that you liked this. This was suppose to be a gift but I feel grateful just as well.
ah, so that's why Heiby is a freak. Note to self: IM'ing friends results freak-characters.
Aha. thank you very much

Don't know if you saw this. I brought it up in a recent blog entry, but due to a faulty LJ-Cut, and deleted it's self during an edit.
I totally printed of your gift with an extended background for my tablet cover. [link]
Ahahaha, thanks again.

I see you made a print avalable for this?
Looking for some spare cash from me?
Ha, well lucky for you the American dollar continues to drop in value, and currently the Canadian dollar is worth more than the American.
So I can buy stuff off sites like this for much cheaper. Haha.
I'll Add it to my wish list for now, and check out the types of prints, because I don't know the difference.

I am going to suck all the money out of you
American dollar used to have bigger value than korean money. Now it is about the same. haha. Also, a lot of thing here are getting more and more expensive.
Glossy is, literatly glossy print. But it sticks to glass, so you can't frame it. Matte is not shiny version. Not sure what Lustre is. I looked it up and it's suppose to be combination of "Glossy" and "Matte" version. hmm

Phil--K In reply to 0meter [2007-09-30 03:38:01 +0000 UTC]
Well, I doubt it's anything I would frame, no offense. Ha.
The 10 x 15 cm is like, 2 dollars.
But the 20 x 30 is over 10 dollars. What the hell. 10 is not twice as much as two.
20 x 30 the one I have my eye on, but I won't even spend that much much until I have better income, sorry. I'm just that cheap.
Also 20 x 30 is the size for a wall mount. And I won't mount anything on my walls until I've moved out. Save me from any more ridiculing from my parents, haha. Sorry.

well I wasn't actually expecting/wanting you to buy haha. I am quite resentful to get involved with money with my art. For some reason it feels very awkward.
Also, it's awkward making you buy your own birthday gift. ha
20 x 30? that's quite big...you are going to see all the errorsss!

Ooooohh, love the blur effect and the fading wing.
It adds a lot of depth to the picture.
Strange pose? Nah, I can tell she's stretching.
Actually, it's nice how you can pull off such a nartural pose.
I am always amazed by your compositions/character poses. :B

glad to hear that the pose worked. Posing is always challanging. I always want to try new poses but some are anatomically difficult. I envy those who had chance to take real life drawing classes.
thanks a lot Z

Well, I've done some figure drawing before.
It's actually extreemly fun, but tireing too. XD
Humm, I've always wanted to just go out to a crowded
place and sketch the people that's passing by really quickly.
Just for that life drawing practice, eh, still haven't gotten a chance to do that...
But you're welcome to take my idea anytime. :d

This looked rather strange to me at first, how you've sort of faded out the parts that are further back (like her other ear and wing). But the more I look at it, the more I like it. :D It makes this look more 3D, like I could reach out and grab her left wing.
The character is recognisable, yet this is very distinctly Your Style. I like that a lot. <3
ALSO THE COLOURS. I COULD EAT THEM. *DROOLS* Like mint chocolate with.. liquorice ice cream?

thanks Applesong. Happy to hear that you liked the blur effect.
I am not quite sure what liquorice ice cream looks like, but the color looks like coffee and mint to me. hmm...would that taste good?
