Description Three characters from three short stories by Angela Carter - 'The Bloody Chamber' (left), 'In The Company of Wolves' (Middle) and 'The Courtship of Mr Lyon' (Right). The last two are her 'versions' of Red Riding Hood and Beauty & the Beast. I'd really recommend these stories, they're like 'adult' fairy tales, and provide very intruiging insight into the tensions/issues behind the original tales.

Very nicely done!
Angela Carter's short stories really are worth reading!
I love how she reconstructs the fairy tales to challenge stereotypes, it really makes you think.

They really do don't they? I enjoyed them very much. This past term at uni I did a module on the evolution of stories and the literary and social themes/ideas that lie behind the transformation of fairytales and myths, so we took a look at "In the Company of Wolves" - I went and bought her collection of short stories afterwards because it was so captivating And the descriptions are so rich - perfect for drawing!

I know! The descriptions are just so detailed and captivating, like loads of writers get lost in description (if you know what I mean) but the way she writes is gripping.
Her short stories are perfect for social themes in literature.
I went out and bought the collection after looking at some for coursework for text transformations in English. We had to take a text and transform it into another genre. Originally I was going to try use a poem and transform it into an Angela Carter style short story. Which I found difficult to say the least!
