Yes, I'd say this is the best print I've done so far. It was the final print for my intaglio class. Although, I still think it's a little under-inked in some areas. I was struggling with the aqautint etching solution all semester. For the third project, the beginning students wore it out and it was old. After my teacher realized how weak it got, he mixed a new batch. And for this one, even though it looked fine on newsprint paper for proofing, it always looked under-inked on the good paper. I tried adjusting the press [which is super old, haha], leaving it longer in the solution, leaving the paper soaking in water longer,...nothing seemed to help it get darker in the areas I want black or close to black.

I do think so too that this is a good start when I do get into printmaking on my own. Unfortunately, because of my financial situation, that won't happen any time soon. That, and I don't have space for a press right now.

Don't worry. It takes some prints and aquatints until you really get what you want Using a etching solution together with others is always difficult.
Besides, it took me over four years to get my own press...
And now I started to work with Lithography and would need another press for it...it's really a vicious circle

I'm starting to sense that, haha. And by the way, are there presses that you can do both intaglio and relief on? It seems that any press for relief can be also be used for intaglio, but the relief-ers that were in my class always used a different one. Although, that might be because of the convenience factor.

etching and relief presses are actually the same. So you can do both with them. Only thing to be careful with, is the height of the woodblocks. Most etching presses have a maximum height of about 2 or 3 cm. Many relief-ers are using presses which color the plate automatically again after printing. This method is just faster. But technically there is no difference, as far as I know.
I'm printing both, relief and intaglio with my press...
