Description So I watched High Guardian Spice months back. The show was enjoyable for how bad it was or maybe I just like watching poorly made stuff.
It also inspired me to make an AU “redo” of the setting except it’s in an alternate timeline where paganism is the norm; magic is real; WW2 is going on and they have to make a “cone of power” in order to repel the nazis.
So for Parsely I had this idea that she was an engineer or in munitions helping her mother make and bless ammunition. Hence why she’s wearing this uniform that was based off something I saw an actual WW2 reenactor wear (she was nice enough to let me take a picture of her for reference).
She also has freckles because I thought she looked adorable with them and I was right, she is absolutely precious. She also has dark blonde eyebrows because the black eyebrows were really distracting and made her look like SpongeBob (can’t complain, I made Rosemary look like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit). She also has a little torque ‘round her neck because Dwarves originate from Norse mythology and I wanted the dwarves to embody some of that.

While I’m proud of my redesign and AU I also feel like I should adapt it to be my own project. Just because I think we need to apologise to Ray Rodriguez.
While yes there are certainly a lot of things in the show that are Mr. Rodriguez’s fault like the world building. I also can’t shake off the guilt of having essentially looked at his show and gone “I could do better than that” I usually do it but considering that he was a first time director with little guidance or funding for the show combined with strange producer meddling which explains the tonal dissonance and given a marketing gimmick for a writing team. I’m not saying he’s entirely not at fault, but no matter how better you make the project it won’t protect you from being exploited by the industry or stop all those things that drastically ruined the quality of the show. I think Crunchyroll used Ray to make themselves look like the good guys and shield themselves from criticism especially criticism regarding their support for Anime studios.
Which brings me to another rant, I’m tired of the industry exploiting women and minorities. I hate that they expect them to be good role models for children instead of themselves; I hate that reporters ask about their identity rather than their work; I hate that companies use minority actors as argument bait and then have the audacity to not protect them from the vitriol they purposely caused for attention; I’m tired of these people being treated as a marketing gimmick and not the well rounded individuals deserving of respect, protection and artistic expression.
