UN?

How do you get all those textures? I like the effect.

For the black and white grayscale process, I combined a lot of parts from various photos and manipulated the values to make them feel cohesive. I usually make the subject clean first and then dirty it up so you could have a before and after shot if needed.

For the dirt and water streaks on the helmet, I used a "leak" brush I personally made from a photo. You could make a bunch of interesting textures brushes out of sources like cgtextures.com or even your own photos.

Thanks for the in depth reply, I like the look. Do you watch Duster? He does a similar sort of.."gritty dirt" look. Its nice, I dig it. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yes! Duster and StTheo 's work inspired me to use photos to create concept art. Before I always painted everything by scratch because thats the way it was suppose to be and using photos was  considered "cheating" but after seeing their work I knew I wanted to do something like that.

I see. Fundamentals are important!

I know way more than fundamentals, but unfortunately moving all that knowledge into practice electronically is difficult at first lol. I got on the PS train late.

is it autonomous or controlled via wifi from people within com centers?

Having it controlled by people is always a great idea so that it isn't up to a machine to take a life but I am always a big fan of killer robots with a mind of their own. Since I made the description very vague and left out a lot of details, the backstory is whatever you imagine it to be so there is a sense of mystery and up to each individual to interpret.

Great work, I like how you made the textures and detail pop out, while implying an out-of-focus dusty terrain.

Thanks! I was trying to make a simple background without spending too much time so dusty desert wind might do.

How large is this machine?

152mm In reply to EverlastingAbyss [2014-04-22 18:59:33 +0000 UTC]

6 ft. Not too tall or big to ensure ease of transport since these robots are quite heavy.
